Modern, short action 7mm

I'd utilize hawkins/GrayOps 2.985 internal mags with a hawkins/GrayOps hunter dbm, or a cfe5 3.00 internal centerfeed box with a m5 oberndorf bdl bottom metal(allows 3rds down). You'd likely need to mod the bolt stop and the bottom of the action to get the magazine up inside the action.

Starting with a rem700 action, the need for blue printing and extraction timing, plus the needed cuts to the underside for long mag feeding and bolt stop mod, is a lot of money/work when there are options available.
Makes sense, thanks for the rundown. What short action would you choose for a 7 SS? Seems like it wouldn’t be a bad fit in a Tikka, but a guy could go 7 PRC in that case too…

I'd prob use a bat igniter from UM. A Tikka would work just fine too, but yes you're leaving some horsepower on the table with the short action designed case, the horsepower isn't really needed tho.

I run mine in a Bighorn TL3 with ARC AICS and genuine AICS without binder plates. Fantastic cartridge

In this day and age of "new" cartridges being introduced all the time, I am surprised that we haven't seen a modern, short action, magnum bolt face 7mm. I'm thinking about something that has an COAL of 2.995" and is optimized for 150 - 170 grain bullets. The 6.8 Western is obviously pretty close, but hasn't caught on and has limited factory support.
Anyone have a guess why this is? The 7mm SAUM has a cult following but no factory support. The .284 Win was pretty versatile but ahead of it's time. 7 mm-08 is pretty awesome but lacks horsepower for heavier bullets. People love the balance of the .280 AI; I suspect it's ballistics could be reproduced in a short fat case.
Obviously there are several great 7s out there, but seems like there is still a hole to be filled. Curious what you have to say, thanks.
I have 7mm 08, 7Mag, 7STW and 7WSM that pretty much covers all that you need for North America no need for a caliber that will get you another 100fps .

Just finished up my son’s 7saw II and it’s an awesome round. Also running 41.0 varget and 162 eldm. 2725fps in the 20” is more than enough. Might build myself one!
How can that be without being crazy high in pressure?
