Model 70 CRPF, worth upgrading?

Have a model 70 super shadow (.270wsm) purchased in 2006 for under $500 new. It is controlled round push feed with the small extractor on bolt face. I like the .270wsm caliber and have killed dozens of Texas whitetails and a Wyoming pronghorn with this rifle. As I focus more on western hunting (moving to Arizona now) I’m wondering if this rifle is worth upgrading, or look at picking up something new? Extractor was “repaired” before by local gunsmith, and works marginally. I could order new extractor, but have been discontinued by Winchester and hard to find. Is it worth dropping the barreled action in a better stock, replacing the trigger and putting better glass on it? Or just buy a new Model 70 (pre 64 action), or Tikka, or browning and go from their? Also, been fascinated by .280ai cartridge. Who’s chambering those in factory rifles? Worth the change?

I love my pre-64 30-06, but it's hard to justify upgrading em. Your easily going to spend twice the cost to get the same level of performance as a new rifle. To me, im a grumpy old man at heart who just loves his pre-64, so I'm upgrading my gun, but I really wish I just bought a new M70 and called it a day... $280-650 for a stock... $40 for new scope mounts, $1k+ for a better/lighter barrel, $250-300 for a refinish that isn't high gloss blueing...

Or you buy a $600 Tikka or a $380 Win XPR that will still probably shoot just a hair better than your 70 ever will.... your mileage will vary. Again, I love and am in a committed relationship with my pre-64 M70... but its not because I'm on a budget that's for sure... :)

I have a couple m70’s and am in the same spot. I’m also rapidly becoming a grumpy old man. One of mine will probably become a money pit in 6.5-06ai, and the other will stay as is, featherweight classic in 30-06.

If the rifle shoots I would go with the upgrades. I think Jack First gun parts has the parts your looking for

I'd spend 15 bucks and swap in a lighter spring before I replaced the trigger outright (assuming a heavy trigger pull is the problem).
