Mobile setups

What are your initial impressions of the tree Styx?
I have 3step heliums and xops as a baseline to go off of. The only gripe I have is how poorly they stack down. But to be sub 1lb, the trade off has to be somewhere, as I look at all these ultralight sticks they all have the same flaw. As for the performance of the stick. The stick flex’s to the tree and sticks on the tree, getting them off the tree can be a process, I learned you have to lift up on them with the rope still around the tree. They are quiet, the way you have to tie the string takes getting use to especially if the tree isn’t straight. They perform really well, I’m pretty happy with them overall.

I like to hunt in the ground typically and move to put myself in better positions, been very successful this way. Having taken 3 over 150 per Wi buck n bear, with this method. This year the grass was just too tall so I had to improvise. I will ratchet strap small trees/willows and stand on a single 3 step hawk helium. Have had great success this way as well, one setup I did I was only able to use 2 tree Styx and was maybe 10’ in a single tree all on its lonesome, for 400yds any direction, as I’ve seen big deer run through the section that tree was in, passed 5 bucks that morning on the 7th.. just be confident in you and your setup, I know here in Wi the public I hunt gets absolutely pounded, but I hear in mi it’s worse and the deer walk around looking up😂.
Ya that seems to be true 😂. Might have to start sitting on the ground then.

Just wanted to show my current mobile setup that has been working for me this year.
Lonewolf .5
4 skeletor climbing sticks
Latitude backstraps
Kifaru bane
Trophyline pouch on seat.
Multicam fanny pack

The bane is perfect for extra layers and I can get a set of rattling antlers in the external pouches. The sticks get lashed on the side with the side straps. The latitude backstraps have been ok, need to be broken in. They are a little wide, and stiff. I fill the seat pouch with screw in hangers, and bow rope.
I add the multicam fanny pack on when I need some extra room. My friend sewed for me for everyday use but it also attached really well to the front of the Bane.

What’s everyone else using?

The gen 2 straps from Latitude are thinner, FYI.

I've been putting off pulling the trigger on a light mobile set up for some time. I'm a treestand guy but I can see the benefits from time to time with a saddle. I ended up picking up a Maverick saddle earlier this year with the XL platform and some Tethrd one sticks. For me, it was more geared to blackpowder and rifle hunting. I've done quite a few sets with it this year and although I like it, it doesn't suite my style for how I like to bowhunt. Again, saddles have their place and to each their own, but for bowhunting I prefer a loc on.

I think next year I'll upgrade to a .5 with the foldable double compacts.

Experimenting with this millenium tree seat setup for ground hunts- i use to use a little hammock but ive gained 20 pounds since last year and its too small now.

the xop harness is not robust enough to pack out a deer, but certainly is better than the stock strap, and you can sandwich layers between the seat.

My current elevated setup is a modified JX3. The JX3 is a hybrid saddle/stand. You sit in it like a stand, but face the tree like a saddle. The design is based on a molle rucksack, so i retrofitted a ruck harness to increase carrying capacity.
-climbing method is the sladder, which fits neatly in the grey camo hip pouch. Compact, light, easy up and down.
-platform is the jx3 stick with top step and diy webbing aider
-includes a small bag on the back for kill kit and trekking poles
-retrofitted lashing straps for packing out game.
-retrofitted battle belt lineman loops into hip belt.
-tether and LB are some oplox i cut from an old rappel rope.
-originally i had the jx3 chest harness, but i found this cheapo TU sling pack can hold more so i use it. Mostly it holds snacks.

Pros: uber comfortable, can sit daylight to dark no problem. No need for seperate backpack. Integrated frame. Simple. Great for rifle or bow hunts.

Cons: i struggle packing lots of layers for when it gets cold, mostly cause im a sissy and get cold.

Lots of threads and dialogue on this on saddlehunter.com. inspired by @KyleR1985

Agree w others that a saddle is great but not always better. Sometimes “the tree” just works better with a stand. I especially end up in hemlocks a lot, they seem to always have branches that make a loc-on a better option. BUT, when I bow hunt public near me I bring the saddle.
Setup I mainly use is a popup 18 pack, 4 timber ninja carbon sticks each with a single step aider and amsteel daisy chain straps, a regular tethrd platform, and a method2 saddle. I spent a season with a 1-stick and keep coming back to the sticks. I especially like how these stack without any offset so I can carry them low/horizontal so there is nothing around my shoulders to catch on brush. The weight penalty isnt that much so it’s become my preference.IMG_9194.jpeg
