Hey guys, my son (9) got picked for a limited draw quota hunt this year. He's a pretty decent hunter and has quite a few animals under his belt. From my experience there, this is a game rich environment with a decent opportunity for a trophy. My original plan was to hunt from the ground with either a blind or our millennium tree seats, but my ideal spot from my hunt there is a CRP field and would love to get him elevated some.

Is there such a thing as a fairly lightweight, transportable ladder stand with a shooting rail? I'd be carrying this thing in for quite a ways (maybe 1 mile or so).

Youtube search your post for some modded step ladders or there are plenty of higher budget choices

Possibly a millennium tripod, they’re pretty light. You’d have to add a shooting stick attachment as a rail though.

Strap it to a game cart... use the cart to get both stand and game out.

I'm trying to figure out a place to put a 2 man ladder for my 80+ yo dad. I gotta bring it in and set it up, then show him where it is. Might hunt with him, might not we'll see.

I wouldn’t put him up a ladder if you’re not going to be with him. Even if he is in good shape accidents happen easily when you have cold feet and can’t feel the rungs under your feet on the way down.

10-4.

Can't protect everyone from everything. I do plan on only putting it up 1 or 2 sections (just enough so he can see around a bit) and making sure he's got a harness on. Will put a chair at the base in case he gets sleepy and wants to nap.
