Mkc StonedGoat or Argali Serac

I picked up the Serac after this season and gave my stoned goat to a friend. Never will use a MKC again. Couldn’t get through 1 side of my Bull with it. I know there’s a lot of love for what they do, but definitely not for me.

I am in the same boat. I'm leaning Serac. Seeing lots of complaints of rust with the MKC carbon knives. They seem to require a lot of upkeep. Not sure about the paracord grip either.

Argali solely based on the business model. I also believe they are a sponsor here and Brad posted on here occasionally.

MKC has turned into a marketing company, that just does drops to create hype and keeps expanding the model line while not being able to stock their original models, and collab with “everyone” to get a sale. But I will say Josh seems like a stand up guy employing a lot of people building knives in the USA.

Serac all day every day. Cheaper, has a real handle scale, and for me it's a fantastic size and blade profile.

Ding ding ding, these are my thoughts exactly... I bought into the hype, and wasted a bunch of money on 2 knives that rust almost immediately and can't hold an edge.

I have an MKC Blackfoot and like it quite a bit. Went through my whole elk with it and never needed a touch up. Anything that has a coating on it like their knives has to be treated with some kind of oil to prevent rusting. Is the knife worth the cost? No. I won’t buy another one. Lots of excellent knives out there at half the cost. I also hate their constant emails/texts of knife drops. Just stopped all that.

Having owned and used both, I kept the Serac. Argali makes a great lightweight knife that is still functional.

i have a few MKC knives that i like, i just carry a small sharpener to touch them up in the field.
i haven't used an argali knife but i do run their Rincon tent so i may have to pick up a knife to try as well since i do love their shelters

I have a carbon and stoned goat. The carbon is solid. It’s nothing fancy but it works. Stays sharp, easy to sharpen and good size.
The stoned goat is nice but the edge retention is disappointing. If I were to get another MKC it would be in the premium steels.
So, as of right now my choice would be the Argali Sawtooth.

How do you like 52100 Carbon steel on the field? I heard a lot of people having rust issues and don't like the maintenance with HC steel.

I’m in Colorado so we are very dry. I haven’t had any issues with rust. Really, I like the size, shape and weight. My issue has been the edge retention. I struggle to get a half of an antelope done. I did about 3/4 of a moose with the carbon. I did 3 antelope with a Ranier Fastpak. I still have the knife but it’s not in my kit when I leave the house.
