Wanted to do a write up on my experience with this knife. Yes they’re expensive, yes the cool kids use them, but I still think it’s a good review for anyone on the fence. I have ZERO affiliation with the brand. I’m just a poor lawn care dude who wanted a nice knife.

If youre a “I’ll never spend more than 30 bucks on a knife” guy and actually mean it just keep scrolling because honestly you have zero usable input for this because you arent willing to try it

I bought a Speedgoat Ultra last fall. Before that I had decent knives(benchmade, Gerber, even tried a swap a blade model). I wanted to see if the hype was legit or just that, hype. Got on the site at my time for drop and rushed to order. Glad I did because it ended up being their fastest sellout to date. The knife showed up and I used it day to day at my lawn care company, cutting boxes, just regular everyday knife stuff. November came along and we packed up for Colorado, I ran the knife across my wet stone till I was happy and off we went. While in Colorado we had a wall tent so my knife became the cooks knife. Dicing potatoes, peppers, you name it. Few days in I shot a deer. That knife got that deer on my pack all by itself using gutless method(bone still in as I didn’t want to mess with deboning). At camp I ran it across my field sharpener maybe 5 times and back in its case.

Few days later buddy shoots a deer. He and I got that one cut by ourselves. So did about half a deer that day. Back to camp, touch it up, move on. Wake up the morning we’re leaving and start throwing deer in coolers. All bone in. We thought we had plenty of coolers for the 4 deer harvested(I wasn’t present for 2 of them) but boy were we wrong. 4 deer on bone take up a lot of space and we were on the clock to get one of our guys to the airport.

Now remember, it’s November in Colorado so it’s getting into the 20s at night, maybe less. Snow on ground. This meat is starting to freeze. Luckily, one of our guys used to be a meat processor. He asked for my knife and got to work while the rest of us tore down camp. He deboned all 4 of those deer without touching up that knife. A knife that had already cut on two deer with minimal touch up. And the most notable part was him stopping multiple times to comment on how well the knife handled and cut. When the meat processor is impressed with a knife, it’s probably a good knife.

So, the big question is what about the hype? Well, I don’t think theres any hype at all. It’s just hard facts. Sure, other knives could hang with it, maybe for less money. However this post is to review this knife, not those ones. And I’m sorry, I don’t care how hard you argue, your “I’m too lazy to sharpen my knife” throw away blade isn’t going to hang popping joints and deboning. Not to mention all the nooks for gunk to get into on them.

Bought an MKC Jackstone a couple weeks ago because, like you, I wanted to try it. Got to use it this morning on my son’s first ever deer, a nice buck with a bow. The knife performed flawlessly. It is very light, and I really like the shape. MKC has its critics and detractors, but after using the Jackstone this morning, I am not one of them. I previously used a Half Faced Blades knife to do deer, but gave that to my son when I got the MKC. I liked the HFB, but it is a lot heavier than the Jackstone. Could I have used cheaper (and maybe better) knife? Maybe. But, I like the one I have right now.

Yeah I don’t get the hate. I think it’s 90% guys too cheap to try one out personally. And I get that. It’s a lot of money. But I’d rather buy once and have a knife for years. I know own two. The Speedgoat no longer is my daily because it’s just too nice for hunting and my wife likes using it too much in the kitchen.

Well-written story. I am always looking for a new knife and I enjoyed your account of using that knife.

I am thinking hard about the Jackstone. Thanks for posting your experience using it.
