Inreach or other devices like this are a must in my opinion, Not only for emergencies but to let people where you are when in the backcountry.Im
No tech guy but what is the benefit of the arc plb vs inreach type of device? I currently don’t even carry any of these. Kinda rethinking now
Temps got just to freezing. Rain, sleet, and snow for 3 days with basically no sunlight.
Same.Been tossing around the idea of getting an Inreach for a while, after following this and now seeing the outcome I ordered one today.
I’ve been using the heck of out of this feature this year. The only thing I caution with solely relying on this is that you need to have a satellite pretty clearly in view and be pointing the phone in that direction. So if you go down in some deep hole or funky spot you may not be getting out. It’s really nice to use to check in thoughPretty sure you can share your location via satellite on an iPhone 14 or newer.

There were like 15 units available by one seller on Amazon an hour ago, now gone! Crazy.Been tossing around the idea of getting an Inreach for a while, after following this and now seeing the outcome I ordered one today.
I was in a nearby unit. You missed out. After the snow stopped the hunting was incredible. You just needed to find a good location lower after the snow stopped. We did see all the guys who tried to go high come back two days later saying they spent those two days digging out.Reminds me of how quick conditions can change. Last year my hunting buddy and I had 3rd season elk & deer tags for Unit 81. We got there a couple of days early with a storm coming. Stayed overnight in a hotel in Antonito, Co with the intention of driving the final miles the next morning. We got up in the morning to 12 to 15" of snow on the ground and still coming down. Drove via county roads to where the BLM road started. It is all uphill, gaining 2500' to 3000' feet in elevation. The snow got deeper and I decided not to go any further. Went back to Antonito and stayed another night. More snow in the morning. We scrubbed out trip. I have often thought that if I had decided to continue to our campsite, we would still be there when Spring came. I know the local Game Warden well and he said the best decision of my life was turning around and going back!
