I'm not sure how many of you have ever fished Red Lake or spent time in the Red Lake State Forest in Northern Minnesota but you should start emailing and calling representatives if you have. This would transfer all of the Red Lake State Forest to the tribe and create a 1 mile buffer zone around the lake. This would effectively block out all non tribal members and create a huge economic impact in the area. I'd like to think that this would never pass but in this day and age who knows. This is all over an old map that doesn't exist anymore or possibly never even existed.

4304 is another bill to do the same with the white earth state forest. I believe its been tabled but all of this needs to be watched.
I'll have to look, but someone had some pretty compelling information on everything that's taken place over the years that's been done to compensate the tribes for those lands specifically (red lake) and why they no longer have the claim they are pursuing.

Yep. They could've had their day in court in 1946 to contest the treaty but failed to do so. There is no evidence to support the boundary change other than hearsay anyway.

I’m sure it will pass eventually. The stories you hear of pilots having emergency landings on the wrong side of the lake and then losing their plane (as a somewhat recent example).

I forget what park we (the state of MN rather) just gave back to a tribe because of historical importance I think it was??

Yes, the area would be crushed if the ice fishing tourism goes away, but I have doubts the tribe gives to shits about that.

Unfortunately, I think this is not an if, but a when..

That was the Upper Sioux Agency State Park. That was a little simpler being that it's only 1,300 acres and no private land mixed in. I'm sure eventually they'll end up with something but I hope not. Hopefully one of these days common sense kicks in with the government.

Sadly they will probably give them Red Lake back, while the state continues to the manage the fishery.

They take an inch and eventually will be a mile, I think, applies here. There was some article over the weekend that Minnetonka moccasin company is in some shit because they had a native designer from red lake design some patterns and apparently that’s not a good thing??? And are apologizing and have been for a few years. Weird state we live in 😉

This whole thing is a sad and accurate depiction of what the minnesota state government is all about. Bleeding heart lefties who don't have a lick of common sense.

Looks like the White Earth State Forest transfer is still in play

Ridiculous. I wonder what they have going on since all of the land transfer bills got tabled for this session. There is another bill out there now that would require a major majority and community agreement for future land transfers. People need to quit going to casinos.

Are there any dates tied to any of this? Me and some buddies make a trip there every winter. Didn't realize this was a thing.

The state stole the land so either give it back or federal court it goes.

Lot of land recovery being attempted by the Mn bans.
There is no evidence of the so called map that they claim was changed other that hearsay. They also had their day in court back in 1946 to dispute it and they didn't.

The Red Lake Bill has been tabled for this session anyway. The White Earth one was also tabled but it appears that the tribe is claiming something is still going on. There was a bill introduced that would require a higher majority vote and community cooperation for any future land grabs.

The White Earth tribe is also currently working with the US Fish and Wildlife Service to grab the Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge. Over 40,000 acres and 12 lakes that money from duck stamps contribute to. It's sad to see what's going on in Minnesota.

UpNorth- this is all a great example of "your vote matters". When Citiots vote in liberals who allow (encourage) for shit like this to take form, this ridiculousness occurs. When those of us who live up in "rocks and cows country" (thank you communist gov) don't bother voting, this is what we end up with... I couldn't agree with you more-- MN has become a sad state.

Exactly. It's also good for anyone that cares to call or email your representatives, even if it's just a couple. They were flooded with emails and calls about this, especially the Red Lake transfer and that was a huge part in getting it shut down.
