Apparently we have them in WI too but odds of drawing a tag are worse than New Mexico!

When growing up there in Mn. I had to chuckle at the moose season as they had 1 tag, don't know if that's still the case but I always thought it funny

Minnesota has never had only 1 moose tag in a season. I hunted them in 2011, the second to last year they had a season, and there were still 105 licenses available. In 2012 my dad drew one of 87 permits. That was the last year they had a season. The first modern moose season was in 1971 and there were 400 permits available. Some years in the 1980s close to 1,200 moose were killed by hunters.

I applied every year for the last 10 years I lived in the state. Personally I love the fact that it's random. I think preference and bonus point systems are the death of big game hunting.

I was listening to the meat eater podcast, and from my understanding, if you didn't start building points from the beginning, you will probably never draw a tag. For certain animals in certain states anyway. I agree with the randomness, everyone has an equal chance every season.

How much is a mn resident elk tag $50 like out west.

Probably similar, not sure it’s a fair comparison though as out west is basically unlimited tags and MN gives out 25 or so for residents only and it’s a once in a lifetime tag, regardless if you fill it or not. One day...maybe, I will fork over my $50 for a tag here in my home state
