Mini 14 pic rail

I inherited a Ruger Mini 14 (old one, 1980ish) and I think I want to do a miniature Randy Shugart M14 inspired setup.

What do you guys like for a pic rail above (not forward of) the action? Probably looking at either an aimpoint pro or one of the primary arms reflex sights.

I know next to nothing about these, but I gather this has a 10 twist so it's going to be primarily a range toy and squirrel gun, got other fast twist .223s for 77 grain bullets.

If it's an 80's version, do not expect exceptional accuracy. Those guns had problems. Easy to research and lookup. Mine had struggles from day one but I have separation issues with guns and still own it. Real fun to shoot.

For sure, I'm expecting a 3+ moa rifle. If it's sub-3 I'll be pleasantly surprised.

That's the reason for setting it up this way, maximum fun and cool for a rifle that probably won't shoot great.

That's the spirit! Mine shoots 3-4 MOA with occasional flyers. It is circa 1987, a stainless Ranch Rifle.

An Accu-Strut or Accuracy Systems strut will help quite a bit, and will make it look a lot more like an M14.

Had a series 180 mini-14 which was produced for a very limited time as it was the one that could be converted to a fun switch with limited effort. Series 181 and beyond were different. Had it D and T’d for a mount. Accuracy was abysmal. They are still very popular here in the North.

Is it a ranch rifle with the built in bases? If so, Ruger makes a pic rail that should meet your needs.
