Any chance there is a member on here that has experience with MSOE? My kid is interested in going there and I am looking for some insight.

Feel free to DM.

Thanks

My brother went there many years ago and got his degree in Mech. engineering. My nephew and his son both graduated from there with the same degree. All three have/had successful carriers. My Brother worked his way up from new hire at Johnson Controls to district manager in the SW. My nephew is a manager for Falk/Rexnord in Milwaukee and his son is an engineer for a A/C contractor also in Milwaukee . Nice school and area, but the summers are hot and humid and winters can be brutal cold, which is a well and good if you are use to that kind of weather.

I just talked, texted my nephew. he gives the school a 8 out of possible 10 rating. Small class sizes, quality education. It has a great reputation. He said it is on the expensive side, but then he is so tight, he squeaks when he walks.

That is great. Gotta live the Rokslide community. You can ask just about anything.

Good to see they are successful. Seems like the school has some connections and a high job placement. But damn is it expensive!

We are from Montana so not worried about the cold.

Thanks!

Like I mentioned, my nephew is on the cheap side. I don't know the particulars but I do know he did a lot of negotiating and got the $$$$ reduce to the point he was willing to lay out for his son education. Also, his daughter has a degree in Biomechanics engineering not from MSOE, but from a different school in Wi. I think it is in Oshkosh. Best of luck whit what ever you decide. Education is the key to a successful life.

MSOE was the first college I visited in high school. I decided against it mainly because I did not want to live in downtown Milwaukee.

If he likes cold, isolation and lots of outdoor opportunities, direct him towards Michigan Tech...

As a long time university resident of multiple schools, make your final decision based on discussions with department faculty as well as students that are currently participating. A lot of departments have great reputations based on faculty that are no longer there.

My personal experience is that most departments have at least one good professor, a couple that meet the goals or a little less and 1-2 that need to be fired or shot.

The next test is placement and where after graduation. I got a couple of degrees that had great placement as shoe salesmen or drug salesmen. That's a bad discovery just before graduation or worse- after.

Another thing to investigate is placement for internships in industry during summers. I believe this experience will not only offset your school cost but will provide 1/3 to half your education with practical experience. Many companies use it to decide if they want you after graduation.

Just a few points to ponder.

I did my undergraduate at Marquette which is downtown Milwaukee. Really enjoyed it. But I lived in So. Milwaukee which was only about a 20 minute drive to downtown.
