Mid 40s guys with constant ringing. Get in here. I have Questions.

Any of you guys get the on/off tinnitus? I can not have any ringing for a long time and then sitting in my house randomly its like someone hit a tuning fork and the ringing comes back for a bit. Not really bothersome, but is odd when its starts ringing out of nowhere.
Mine used to be that way I'm pretty sure.

As with many things, YMMV, and it's pretty easy to cut out caffeine to see if there is a change for you. Same with eating more fruit, fiber and dairy.

Agreed on the caffeine, but adding more sugar or useless indigestible carbs in the form of fiber to your system is really only going to make things worse if it has any effect at all. Same goes for dairy as many people are intolerant to it without even realizing as much.

I wasn't trying to open up a complete dietary topic, but the study cited (FWIW) says adding those (including caffeine - not cutting it) is correlated with a reduction in tinnitus. How much? No clue. Will doing so have other impacts? Sure. I personally don't think any of the dietary items will have any impact on tinnitus. But again, YMMV.

I notice a fairly severe uptick in tinnitus whenever I go back on the caffeine, personally.

To be fair I drank a lot of Diet Coke for a long time . Tinnitus was crazy bad , driving me nuts .
I quit cold turkey and a lot of joint pain and tinnitus went away , I was 52 . The worst part was my sis had been trying to get me to quit forever, so I had to listen to her -I told you so !
😂
Same here with the diet coke/coke zero. Really have only had two in the last two years and started going away from processed food (although I fail often at that). Started a pretty good supplementation routine and feel a lot better. (57 here)

This is a company based out of central Mississippi, but they have clientele all over. I don't know Grace personally but do know her family. They are good people. She is an audiologist, they do custom fittings or will send you a kit that allows you to do your own mold for hearing protection. They offer both passive and electronic options. I know several guys they have bought her high end custom electronic protection and love it. I still can't justify the money, but I do have the OtoPro Impluse plugs. They do have their limits when trying to blow a duck call, but generally work pretty well as non electronic passive ear plugs. No more ringing ears for days after a dove hunt. She has done several hunting podcast and I think has found a niche in this market as well as others. I know she did a custom fitting for the Meateater guys a few years ago. Give her a call and see what she recommends for the constant ringing, she will offer advice with out a big sales pitch in my experience.

I think I watched a video of hers and a huge take away was how to properly insert foam ear plugs. I had never done it correctly and it is night a day. Totally worth a guy checking it out if they have never been shown the proper way.

I have a set and reviewed them here: https://www.rokslide.com/otopro-soundgear-phantom-and-impulse-review/

Mine is bad, filed a claim through the Va. Now I'm being paid for it. Are you a Vet ??
I think it's 10%, so if that is all you have $175 a month.

Does anyone make a electric ear muff that can be worn hunting that will give you better hearing, but can be safely shot?

Walkers or someone? Anyone have any experience?

Terrible tinnitus myself. I purchased the Otto earbuds and like them. Well worth it. I use them for all hunting exploits except turkey. A loud yelp on my call will actually trigger them to quiet and I cannot hear a gobbler replying for maybe 2 seconds until they reset. Haven’t found a solution for turkey hunting yet.

It's not a muff but several have posted the Soundgear Phantoms. I use them for everything. Range, upland, ducks, turkeys. Can go 4/5 hours before I start to notice them. Enhanced hearing plus protection plus streaming audio from your phone. Simple process to get fitted and well worth it because I'm willing to actually use them every time I might be shooting, even with suppressed rifles.

Here's the report. Back from the audiologist with pretty much normal hearing except for the tinnitus. No drops in hearing below 8k hertz. Nothing to do except get regular assessments and do the right stuff to keep it normal.

She did suggest the Westone Defendear for what we would want for hunting. I'm going to explore those.

Mine is a lil more, 230% total and permanent. Brought home lots of stuff from the Persan gulf many years ago.

Hearing test is cheap and should be covered by insurance. The tests that the IPHONE has show I have no loss at all but I for sure have separation issues, zero chance of successfully having a conversation in a bar or anywhere that music is playing, that shows up on a real test.

There should be a class action suit against the ATF for limiting access to suppressors for so long rather than encouraging their use as PPE for shooting.

I'm not looking for a tinnitus cure. That's not what was asked. Just general hearing advice and what people have done that they have been happy with at a middle age.
After some searching I found a Youtube video with the closest equivalent to mine (spring cicadas buzzing) and share that when I want sympathy. Happiness wasn't a possible outcome.

I’ve thought, especially late at night when “it” is loud, of trying to figure out what frequency mine is. It’s a high pitch that modulates slightly. Will have to check out YT.

I’m 37 and got hearing aids this year, they are truly a game changer for me, my audiologist told me I like guns without me saying a thing about it after my hearing test. I definitely hear alot more and it calmed my ringing down plus I got blue tooth on em and can turn on a podcast without my wife knowing, my biggest struggle was hearing higher pitched noises and voices, I struggled making out what my daughter was saying. I had no problems with adult voices unless someone was whispering

I feel bad about not being able to hear my daughters, not hearing or understanding adult women has been a godsend.

What can also be helpful on a more cerebral level is realizing that there isn't any actual ringing - it's just false signals being sent to your brain. This will probably take some time to meditate on, but it works for some people. It's all an illusion, basically.
