I’m looking for a dummy simple classic configuration scope for my newly acquired left hand model 70 (30-06).
The newer Leupolds scare me, I’ve heard one too many stories of lost zeros and just overall being fragile.
I’ve been eyeing a 2008 era 2.5-8x36 B&C VX-III that I’ve been considering picking up for this rifle. Anyone have experience with Leupold from this era? I’m hoping the glass is “good” by today’s standards but more durable than the new stuff.

I'd look for a vari-x 3. The scope you want in a vari x 3 never had a reputation for failure....in fact they lived happy lives on mean rifles.

I had a Vari-X III on a tang safety Ruger for a while, it was a great scope. I really liked it but sold that rifle to fund my recent model 70 purchase.
I wasn’t sure if they improved anything in the VX-III

I’ve got a couple of Vari X III 3-10 x 50s that have been absolute tanks. Hunted them hard and never let me down. Truly set and forget.
