I received the Hornady micrometer seating stem for Christmas and started playing with it. I have an RCBS Summit press and noticed that the micrometer would touch the press and I was working the press but it just barely touched so I continued to use it.
When seating bullets the other night I was getting frustrated after noticing that my bullets were not all seating to the same CBTO.
After further investigation I found that with each press of the handle the micrometer was seating deeper by .001 to .002". Which isn't a big deal if I would have caught it early, but I sat 3 bullets, they were all good then I went to town and didn't catch it till I loaded another 20 rounds. They should all shoot, but now I have 20 sighters/fouling rounds.
Are there any other micrometer seating setups that would work with the Hornady dies that are just a tad thinner?
Do I just get a Redding micrometer seating die?
Or do I just go back the the old way without the micrometer? The problem here is i spend so much time trying to find the right seating depth! Lol.
