What is your draw length and weight?

68 lbs and 27.5-inch draw. Currently shooting a 385 gr arrow at 285 fps from my 340 IBO bow.

I don't want to go crazy for FOC. I want a durable arrow and not going for super light gpi. But with my draw (and therefore speed) limitations, I'd like a little stiffness in the arrow with more up front to help as much as possible with penetration.

After 3-4 years I just made the switch from miro back to .204. I was sick of bent FMJ Injexions, lack of D6 heads, mushrooming shafts, and didn't trust any of the outsert systems.

I'm very early in my testing but I went full blown Iron Will with an Axis shaft, and I can't imagine having any durability issues with this setup.

What's your reasoning for wanting to try a micro?

I have been using the 95 grain stainless outserts by victory for over 7 years now. If they bend, chances are, the arrow is not shootable any way. I have killed countless animals with them and the penetration is phenominal.

Less susceptible to wind drift is a big reason.

Also, I figured they'd be more durable. Maybe the shafts themselves are, but it sounds like the limiting factor is the components.

If you do decided to go the day six route, just call day six and talk to Brian Broderick, he is extremely helpful with getting you in to the right arrow. Just guessing that for a full day six setup you would have a complete setup somewhere around 420-450 grains depending what grain head you run and how long you cut your arrows, which is a pretty good happy medium for your weight and DL, and I'm betting you wouldn't sacrifice as much on trajectory as you would think. That's a moderately weighted setup with ~150-175 up front that is extremely durable. You could go with a lighter GPI shaft, and add more weight to get up to that same total arrow weight.. and yes you would have a higher FOC. In that scenario, I do not think the gain in FOC outweighs what you sacrifice in durability.

Just one way to skin a cat. There are many different ways to approach it, but if you truly do want to stay on the micro shaft route, from my personal experience you'll be hard pressed to find a more well rounded system.

Ethics or Day Six gets my vote. Both are very well thought out and use solid materials.

Last year I build a setup with micros: GT Pierce Platinum 300 cut to 26.5, EthicsArchery insert/outsert @ 105grs, 125gr broadhead; 502 TAW

They flew really well out of my bow and I had no issues. That said, I do like the .204 arrows also. I may try BE Rampage if my new bow ever gets here. I'm going to try the Ironwill stuff. I've got some Ethics stuff coming for my wife's Axis build, so I'm looking forward to how they turn out.

You all might have talked me back to just sticking with .204 arrows.

Any thoughts on the Black Eagle half outs for .204?

I got my first day six set up this past fall for my recurve. I was tired of breaking the other arrows I had when stumping or occasional missed at the 3D range. I wanted the micro for wind drift and the heavy arrow compacted into such a small diameter (making it really strong). Plus I hunt in SD where it is always windy, these fly so much better in wind, that has been very evident. With regards to the aluminum component, that is all Brian uses to test its durability, and he said he has shot the same system through more than a dozen animals without failure... so very durable too.

It’s funny you say that as I just bounced a 50gr aluminum centric off my basement wall.....don’t tell the lady up stairs. Indicator runout is still perfect!

I would get them footed or a collar of some kind if you do. They are awesome arrows, but I’ve broken a few of them when I shouldn’t have. Went to grab one arrow out hunting and the back third just fell off (assume something rolled into it or something and cracked it). The other I tried to thread through smaller hole at a deer, I clipped a limb and just got a couple hairs off the deer...It broke in half too. Obviously both were my fault, but I want something that can withstand a little more then that. They are the most accurate arrows I have shot though. I felt like the Easton axis I used to shoot were slightly more durable, so I may try those again with some collars down the road.

I have loved the Easton Axis for target shooting and target durability. But, I have the damnedest time with broadheads on them. I think the aluminum HIT system is to blame. Maybe not where they're new, but they seem to bend easily, And I can't imagine the brass being much better. The Axis just start to get heavy quick when adding components up front and upping the spine to compensate.

Haha too funny. Well I hit a soft spot on my target and hit the corner of a TV in the garage... no hiding that from her lol. At least it was 10+ years old lol. They have serious penetrating capabilities.

I'm currently shooting a 250 spine BE Rampage with Ethics. My total weight is 570 grains. They fly great and hit hard.

Yeah I suppose they do. I don’t mind a little extra weight so it doesn’t bother me. I would definitely try to get some better components for them though. I’m a big believer in a collar system. Couple of my friends and I have gotten pretty addicted to trad this past year. After seeing a lot broken, and now not seeing them break with the collar, they have me sold.

I decided that if I stuck with .204s I'd be wondering if a new setup of micros would be better. So, I worked backwards from my ideal total arrow weight and component weights, and being realistic on my expected arrow speed. Then I looked for the closest shaft to what came out. That was basically Victory VAP or Black Eagle X-Impact. I decided to order some X-Impacts from my local archery shop. We'll see how this goes.

I have had nothing but problems with outserts, bending and staying in targets. Went back to deep six with good results.
