Messed up rifle bedding

20 whatever years ago I used Acraglass and their blue release agent and worried a lot. Now I use WD-40 and JB Weld. Have used the regular, Kwik Weld and the white putty. All worked. Don’t give up, I had to do a few redos because I missed a spot, didn’t put enough epoxy in and/or rushed it. Prep is everything. I had a couple come out looking crappy but the rifles still shot great. 🤷🏻‍♂️😂

I followed @ResearchinStuff thread. Used black shoe polish as a release agent. Also, I liked Devcon as the bedding, It seamed like MArineTex was a little more runny and I had to let it set up a little longer before it became a "spreadable paste". Also used modeling clay from Walmart to block all the holes you don't want filled.

Johnson paste wax is what I have been using for 20 years. I do not suggest installing the action screws. I use dummy bolts. All thread can work, but make sure you apply release agent to the bolts and threads or it'll suck.
I have used stretch bands, electric tape and similar to keep the action lightly bottomed while the bedding cures. You DO NOT want to induce stress.

Once you pull the action, drill the action screw holes large enough that there's zero contact on the screws.

Interesting that people are having trouble with one-shot—I used it for years with good results. I wonder if they changed the formula. I really like the brownells aerosol release agent but its pricy and always seem to run out at the wrong times. Johnsons paste wax is good and I still have a big tin…but its no longer made last I checked. I imagine any carnauba-based wax would work, but Id rather not go first.
