After much research on spotting scopes I am thinking of getting the Meopta Meostar S2 Spotter. Is there any reason not to get the wide angle 30-60, or would I be better served with the 20-70. Looking for any advice before ordering up the eyepiece. Going to be doing mixed bag of Midwest hunting and mule deer out West.

I run the 30-60 WA eyepiece and never wish for more power on the top end. I have wondered though if the option to go down to 20X at first/last light would help give an extra minute or two of light but the huge field of view on 30X with the WA eyepiece is so nice to have during all the rest of the day that I haven't every cared to try a 20-70 eyepiece.

I also have the 30-60, my thoughts are in line with This ^.

30-60 wide ! You won't miss the low power at all and the 70 power is often unusable due to atmospherics but the wide field of view of the 30-60 wide makes glassing easier. The S2 with the 30-60 wide is the next best scope to the Swarovski ATX 85 imo. I had the S2 and currently own an ATX 95 and 85. Knowing what I know it's hard to justify the ATX I own. The S2 is a better optically than the ATS 80 hd I owned but the S2 is a half pound heavier. I also owned the Cabelas version of the S2 in 20-70 and the view through the 30-60 wide is more useful.

Appreciate the feedback on the eyepiece. Will be ordering up the scope with 30-60 eyepiece. Originally had thought about a razor HD, but figured I would make the extra stretch to get the Meopta Meostar based on all the positive feedback.

The S2 is a much better scope than the Vortex 85 imo. I've looked through several Razor 85's and they were all a real disappointment. I don't even like the Razor for a budget scope.

I've seen some S2's on classifieds for New razor prices or you can get them from Sport Optics right now on sale for <$1900 with eyepiece which isn't too far off from a razor.

Done deal except for the UPS delivery service. Went with the wide angle from Sport Optics. Going to start looking for a good packable tripod now. Have a solid Manfrotto with pistol grip that is a little heavier than I want to pack very far. Will work for eagle watching this winter, but going to start the research on tripods as I am planning on mule deer and elk in the fall.
