I recently saw a black melanistic color phase adult bob cat on land I have permission to hunt him on.
Does anyone have any idea what the pelt would be worth if I decide not to do a full body mount for myself?
located in the Ozarks so I assume a not prime pelt.
Thanks,
Doc

The skin on the fur market I assume very little maybe 50 bucks. They can't make too many jackets with so few melanistic bobcats out there. It's more of a novelty. However to Taxidermist if it got sold while I don't think you'd have a problem getting at least 300 and you could if in great shape get 500. Or more it's all in who wants to pay what. But it should ideally be trapped so it has minimal damage. Don't go after it until after Christmas. Assuming it's within season of course

^^^^ This. It won’t bring much at a fur truck or sale, it would be more of a niche market for something like that. I’d reach out to your state trappers association for contact info of potential buyers. Good luck, and don’t forget photos!

If it was me, fur prices be damned. Good luck ever finding another melanistic cat, is it really worth trying to find a market in a dying trade for a once in a lifetime coat?

Full body mount it, unless someone is going to pay you enough to go find another one with a better coat.

Saw one while duck hunting - shot a duck and it fell in a bush - started to go over and there is a black bobcat standing there with duck in it's mouth. Pretty neat.
