Meet my black lab puppy

Yup, I love him.

My boy is 9 this year so i know his end is coming. I really want to take a dog break for a few years to be able to get out and do things like travel without worrying about the dog. Not sure if I can do it though.

What are BL pups going for these days?
Depends on what you are wanting. One with parents that have all the proper health testing and a few titles 1200-1500. One with a really strong pedigree full of fc,afc ,nfc or grhrch 1500-3000 . Then there are the dogs that regular people dont even get a chance at 5k plus i have been told. I have a particular dog i think i want my next one out of it will be in that middle range

Hey Gus. This is Indy. A Brittany that just had her 1st birthday.
She grew up too quick. I wish the puppy stage would have lasted longer than it did.
But now she is one of the leanest meanest chukar dogs I’ve ever seen.
She has the absolute sweetest personality, then flips into hunting mode in an instant. Devilishly smart. And will run absolute laps around the border collie, which is no easy featIMG_7818.jpegIMG_1233.jpegIMG_0490.jpeg

Good to know that a Brittany can outrun a Border Collie. I had a BC that was so fast he was illegal in 7 states. He was deaf and prolly autistic. We would get him out of the car and do a ritual we called “Launching the Wally”. His name was Wally, and we clicked on a level I’ve experienced with very few humans. One time we were going down a slightly inclined road back to the truck, the weather was cool and wet, and just lighting up his nose… and he put it in gear. The sand was packed from a recent rain, so I had the thought to measure his stride. His strides were seven of mine plus some change, so maybe 22-23 feet. I measured some running bighorns the same way one time. 10 of my strides… around 30 feet.

We’d pull up at a trailhead, get ready to go, and the whole time he’s dancing like a meth head. Then I’d point where we were going and give him a hand signal, and it’s like watching a cruise missile. A few strides to get the motor going, and then an undulating vibrating streak of black and white, disappearing into the distance. God’s own definition of joy made palpable. This would always draw an involuntary laugh from me. I laugh still thinking about it, though he’s been gone almost a year now. Jesus….I miss that dog.
