I am traveling this year between 2 hunts, one right after the other. My question is, do the meat processors or some other stores carry DRY ICE in or around Gunnison? If I'm lucky enough to fill my tag in Colorado, it would be another 7-10 days before I could get the meat back home. I'm hoping to use dry ice instead of having to re-ice continually. I plan on using frozen milk containers for the first leg of the hunt, but I'm fairly certain they would not last 2 weeks. The hunting trip starts beginning of November.

Not sure about the meat processors (the one I use in Chama does not), but Wal-Mart, Albertson's, and Home-Town Markets carry dry ice. Most large grocery stores carry limited amounts which can be hit or miss during hunting season. Home-Town Markets are in Pagosa and Antonito, and do processing also.

Couple things, yes City Market in town carries dry ice.

But the big thing is that if you are hunting in November you almost don't need ice up here. If it were me I would open the cooler drain plug and crack the top open at night because it will likely be around 20-30 degrees at night that time of year. Then in the morning close the lids and your coolers should be able to keep the meat plenty cold

You can also freeze ice in square containers like rubber maid dishes and stack one cooler plumb full of ice. It will literally last for weeks in a good cooler/location. (Take the ice out of the rubber maid container once frozen and just leave the ice square in the freezer until ready to use)
