MDT hnt 26 review??

Absolutely amazing stock. Cost is high is the main drawback. Had an XLR but sold it and got the HNT26. Definitely like certain things about it over the other.

I have only had mine for a few days, but the install and the first trip to the range were encouraging. Mine is carrying a Tikka T3x in .243 Winchester. I was concerned about feeding, but it feeds so slick that I had to double-check to see if it chambered a cartridge the first time. (5-round MDT mags)

I got a little bummed that the bolt won't come out with the cheekpiece raised. I didn't have an allen wrench at the range. After I got home, it dawned on me that I could have folded the stock out of the way. Lol.

I obviously haven't fully adapted to that feature yet.

I am not super impressed with the grip shape and size. I will give it some time for adaptation.

Also interested in buying one of these so any info helps! seems to be the most popular high end light weight hunting stock.

I really like the chassis. It is solid for my 7PRC. While it works well I am not overly fond of the folding stock. It's too bulky when folded and makes noise when opening. Wish it could fold right and had height adjustable butt plate. Other than that very nice and I will plan to get a second one but with NO folding stock.3334.jpg

I really like mine. Like the built in thumb rests on both sides of the grip to accommodate open or closed grip. At first the grip wasn’t my favorite but with an open grip style it is growing on me. You can put almost any A2 style grip on it so if you don’t like it just swap it out.

Folding mechanism locks up real tight. I would get it in folding. Yeah it thickens when folded but it is still workable. As others said, removing the tikka bolt without folding and with a raised check riser is problematic.

Really look at your use case for it. For me I’m definitely not as quick with it for quick snap style shots.

Nothing feels cheap about it. There is a mod to raise the butt pad without the heavier adjustable one. I ended up just putting the mdt adjustable one on since my fabrication skills suck.

Essentially you can make this chassis pretty close in ergos to the rokstock. Negative comb above bore etc.

Anybody have issues with the forend attaching via two small screws?

Zero issues with the forend. It locks up tight and is very secure when mounted correctly. I have taken mine off and on on multiple occasions and zero issues. Just always make sure to remember to torque to specs when retightening the screws!

I would highly recommend getting your hands on one before purchasing. I thought I wanted one too. Then I used one for a bit…they’re not for me. IMO the only advantage is the folding feature. A properly configured negative comb stock outperforms it in every other way, and not by a little IMO. McMillan Mtn Tracker, Rokstock, Clymr is where I’d look instead. UNLESS you’re consistently hiking in extremely thick brush where having the gun inside your pack (or not sticking up behind the footprint of the frame) becomes extremely beneficial. Even then, that’s about the only time you’re gonna truly like it….that was my experience anyways. Just My .02 cents

It is a very nice folding chassis! Easily adjustable and comes with a bunch of great features built in (arca rail, mlock slots, qd cups). I use one of these and an xlr quite a bit for thermal coyote hunting.

For normal hunts I much prefer a standard stock (rokstock).

The HNT26 a great chassis, perhaps the finest ever made, but the weak point is the handguard attachment into the magnesium chassis. I've had two folding versions dating back to 2021 or so. On one of them, I had my gunsmith epoxy the handguard to the chassis to eliminate the screw holes hogging out. It's now permanently attached but the barreled action still comes out easily. Problem solved.

The only competition in the market is Seekins new Hunter Chassis, which is another fine unit, and Manners Pro Pack Folder if you like traditional stocks. Any of the three are great options, and I can't tell you which one I like best. My goal for 2026 is to determine that. Factoring in money, I'd likely say the Seekins Hunter.

The Peak44 stocks are also good options.

I have used it in one NRL hunter match and one 10day hunting trip. Mine has the folder which I dont really use
