I’m looking at ordering a mcmillan edge fill stock but I’m stuck. The mountain rifle, KS and Hunter edge would all work I think but I would like the help of the masses with the minor differences between them. Will be on a short action with detachable mags and a #3 contour barrel. Pics are a plus! Any I should be considering other than these?

What barrel length? Fluted? Shank length?Weight goal?

As of now, 23”, no flutes, it is coming with a 1.2” shank, 8.5lb scoped. I guesstimated 26oz for a stock, 3lb barrel, 30oz action, 24oz scope puts me at 8lb even. 8oz for bottom metal, pillars, sling studs, sling, scope rings should put me about 8.5lb

I personally like the McMillan hunter but the Hunters edge or a Classic in edge fill isn’t a bad choice if going a #3 contour.
Just a heads up McMillan is increasing prices 10% starting January 1, 2020.

Well, you can scratch the KS off your list since it only comes in long action and only in ADL, plus if you can still order one from McMillan I think they up charge you an additional $100 plus I think they need 10 to even get the KS mold back in production. Its a great stock but not sure the fore-end has enough width to hold a #3 contour - maybe it could depending on barrel maker but probably not. But again no short actions.

The Mtn could work, I had a friend that had a #3 Bartlein in a Mtn rifle stock but it kind of looked funky - the fore-end just isn't enough to hold that big a contour.

Hunters Edge - sure thing that will work just fine for all your needs, makes for a great stock on a all out hunting rig.

Or like Cahunter805 said take a look at the Classic Edge which is maybe my favorite especially with a #3 contour barrel. So you wanted pics - 1st one is a KS.

Classic Edge with a #2b Bartlein which is about like others #3 contour.

Not a great picture but the middle rifle is a Bart 2b, left rifle has a Brux #3 contour, both in a Classic Edge. IMHO the Classic Edge with a #3 is perfect:)

I have a 260 in a Mountain Rifle stock and I love the stock. I like thin forends and a thin wrist and it points well. I also have a Hunter on a 300 WM PSS. It handles recoil very well and is good with bigger contour barrels.

Oregonmuley knows what he's talking about. The Mtn rifle stock is not a good match for that barrel. The Hunter's edge is okay if you have a scope with a small objective. Otherwise, it has too much drop for a good sight picture. The Classic Edge is a great choice. Another one, which I find a bout perfect for a #3, is a McMillan Hunter in Edge - this stock has a monte carlo cheek piece though if that matters.

Classic Edge is a perfect fit with a #3 and is the way I would go also. Mt Rifle is definitely too narrow for that barrel. I don't believe McMillan will do a KS in an edge. I have a KS on order and Like OregonMuley said it is $100 up charge due to it being a special set up for a very small number of stocks. I was told the wait would be longer but have not heard the 10 minimum before running a batch. Keeping my fingers crossed.
