ADFG has reduced the harvest quota to 30 bulls which is significantly down from the usual 70-80 bulls. The herd is difficult to count as they are non-migratory and do not congregate in large groups. Much of the herd hangs out in the Donnelly Flats area and provides great photo ops for tourists.
The herd extends over into the Robertson River and TMA country and probably wanders into 20A and 13 as well. Most of the hunt is within DCUA. Beautiful country!
This hunt is/was a great opportunity for those that wanted a wilderness backpack hunt as most of the season was non-motorized except for the last two days. There was/is opportunity for very nice bulls. Some non-motorized hunters rode bikes from the west side DCUA.
If any members are hunting sheep in DCUA, will you give us a post hunt synopsis of what you saw for caribou.
McComb herd is small but an indication of what the last two winters did in this area.
