Maven’s illumination sucks?

Am I the only one that feels this way? The dot is barely visible at all, especially at lower powers. Makes me wonder why they even bothered. Yet I also haven’t heard too many complaints about it. Am I the only one who thinks this? Or did I get a turd?

I agree. I got behind one of my buddies and felt the same way. Its one of the reasons I haven’t purchased one.

My cousin has an RS1.2. Illumination is almost non existent. Not a big deal tho, cuz we never use illumination anyway

Ditto. Went through 3 batteries before I realized it just sucks.

Mine is pretty weak. However I also have a Leupold Mk5 3.8-18. Which is even worse. However, I think the theory on the Mk5 is the illumination is meant to be useful on higher powers without overwhelming the Horus reticle.
All I really want is a bright dot for low light up close fast work. Is that too much to ask? Especially on the Mk 5, the reticle is damn near unusable unless well lit and over 7-8x. The RS1.2 reticle is way better, but it would be much better still with a bright dot.

IMHO it sucks. If you don’t need it - fine, but it seems odd to have it when (at least for me) it’s invisible during the day (when even I don’t think about it), and at dusk it’s invisible at less than 6x. I traded emails with Maven CS and it seems that it’s because the dot is so small. Is this a FFP thing because if the illuminated dot was bigger at 2.5x, it would be huge at 15x?

The 2 scopes I've used both have nasty bleeding all over the reticle.

We are allowed to hunt an hour after sunset here and I can see for 30-40 minutes of that period. When its dark and you set to the lowest illumination setting it still splashes all over the reticle.

I'm surprised they are getting a free pass on this and not getting called out more.

Everything is prim and proper until you crank that feature on and then it might as well be a BARSKA, etc.

I'd be embarrassed to send it out if it was my product at a $1200.00 price point.

I would have told my guys to delete that feature if that's the best we can do.

Yeah mine bleeds too, but it’s not a problem because I try not to crank the magnification high enough to see it!

Ok, well, glad to know I’m not nuts, but what a disappointment.

Is it that damn hard to get it right?

Yes the bleed is what pisses me off. It’s terrible and almost unusable.

I just got one and for mine with a nighttime sky background it bleeds a ton on high power(8-10) but seems perfectly usable at low power(1-3). That said I so far feel like the reticle is just fine for our local shooting hours in WA. But maybe I'll change my mind at some point.

I am in complete agreement. It bleeds on higher power levels and is weak on the lower levels. I almost feel like I see 2 reticles when it is bleeding also. Some kind of shadow effect maybe? For all its positive attributes, the illumination is a net negative. I'm liking the mils but not completely hooked on the FFP reticle yet.

Mine has some bleed but it's not terrible. As long as I don't have the illumination turned up too high it's all good. Even in bright daylight I don't have to trim the illumination up all the way to see the dot. I think I've got it set to be able to turn it on at level 4.

My complaint is why does the scope have it in the first place? It's absolutely not needed, it's extra weight, and an extra potential failure point for people to nitpick at. The reticle doesn't need lit up.

However, if you do want/need it.... Maybe yours is a turd and mine is exceptional . I've seen quite a bit of variation in people's reports on this topic.
