It is supposed to be dull. To help eyes see a fine aiming point in dark conditionsI purchased a RS 1.2 on Mavens recent sale due to all the hype. I'm fairly impressed with it. I still prefer my 4-16 x 42 ATACR but I like the maven reticle much better. Optically it compares really well to a lot of other FFP scopes I've tried in that price. Probably has the most useable reticle that I've found for low light work. However, the illumination is garbage. Can someone with this scope elaborate on what the illumination is supposed to look like on this scope? All the pics I see online show only a center illuminated dot. However, the one I received parts of the entire reticle are illuminating and lots of bleed thru. Its not very useable. Maybe I got a bad one? its the only one of these I've layed hands on and Maven provides no information whatsoever on what the reticle is supposed to look like when the illumation is on. I tried taking a picture but wasn't something I could capture in a phone camera.
Thanks for the info. I'm guessing mine is out of spec then. I was expecting "some"bleed thru but this is pretty much useless as it. I guess its getting a trip back to WYOnly the dot should be illuminated. That being said there is a lot of bleed out based on how theirs is designed. The only illuminated dot I’ve seen that is just the dot with very little bleed is a S&B. Otherwise it’s just a product of the design.
It's pretty common from what I've gathered. Both of mine bleed on the higher illumination powers. Not sure sending it in will change anything. Thanks for the info. I've got an RS.4 with a somewhat similar illumination, and it bleeds thru some as well but only on the higher illumination settings like you describe With this RS 1.2 its already bleeding thru with tiny little starburst by the 2nd to lowest setting, I just can't think the illumination can be this bad on a $1200 scope when i've seen garbage Chinese optics that work a lot better. I really hope there is something wrong with it because its so close to being a great scope in that price bracket but for the 2.5X to be useable to me the illumination needs to be useable. once It gets to 3X or 4x I really wouldn't need it.It's pretty common from what I've gathered. I haven't touched the illumination knob on either of mine since last year. I can take a look, refresh my memory a bit.I've got an RS.4 with a somewhat similar illumination, and it bleeds thru some as well but only on the higher illumination settings like you describe With this RS 1.2 its already bleeding thru with tiny little starburst by the 2nd to lowest setting, I just can't think the illumination can be this bad on a $1200 scope when i've seen garbage Chinese optics that work a lot better. Man thanks, that is very helpful! I least I know what it is supposed to look like now. Maven didn't provide much info when I called today but in a round about way they kind of admitted the illumation onthis scope was pretty poor. I typcailly don't use illumination much but for application I was gonna use this scope for I would really like to have it.Here’s the other one. A little more bleed with this one, similar story in a darker room.
Had to replace the batteries to even check haha. I don’t use the illumination typically.
Agreed, about 90% right would be correct. Really liking the reticle though, Might not use it on this rifle but can probably find a use for a well designed FFP scope that isn't 2K.The illumination just sucks. Send it back if it makes you feel better, but I’m not sure a replacement will be any better.
Maven got it 90% right with this scope, but damn they sure blew it on that last 10%.
Yeah, just didn’t want you to waste time sending it back when you’re unlikely to get a different result.Man thanks, that is very helpful! I least I know what it is supposed to look like now. Guess I'll have to think about whether or not to keep it. Doesn't seem like sending it back for warranty evaluation is gonna get me anywhere.
Take a look through the Leupold Freedom scopes and then look through even the VX3HD leupolds, the freedoms are cheap garbage not even worth chucking on a 22 imoSo I've been researching scopes and am liking the Maven RS1.2. This will be my first quality scope and I am not that proficient yet. I always hear cheap gun good scope. But I also hear by cheap first because you will upgrade once proficient...... Would I be better off to buy something like a Leupold VX-Freedom 3-9x40mm and upgrade later?
It will be going on a 1903 30-06. I will be on everything from rolling grassy hills with oak and scrub brush, to high Sierra mountains of eastern California, to hopefully places like POW Island and mainland Alaska. California really limits my ammo choices and with punch power and bullet drop I'm really only looking at a max of 400yds.
I like what I read about the Maven. .
I feel the same way about the VX3HD line failed me on a hunt. Hence why I'm reading through this thread.Take a look through the Leupold Freedom scopes and then look through even the VX3HD leupolds, the freedoms are cheap garbage not even worth chucking on a 22 imo
Not sure id put a $1200 scope with an ffp on a 1903So I've been researching scopes and am liking the Maven RS1.2. This will be my first quality scope and I am not that proficient yet. I am curious why not? What would you recommend? Not sure id put a $1200 scope with an ffp on a 1903
