Looking for some advice. I currently own a Mathews Halon 6. I’ve shot it the last two seasons. Was thinking about selling it and buying the new Vertix. Anyone had experience with both bows, and could give me their 2 cents would be appreciated.

Having set up and sold a bunch of each here’s my take. You’re not going to see any huge gains in performance from one to the next. Tuning they’re the same as well. Where the Vertix has the edge is noise and vibration. Also it’s versatility with the switch weight mods. Vertix has a slightly better hold on target and for me a much better grip. Just my 2 cents

I’ve had my halon for 3 seasons and thought I would upgrade to the vertix this year - not b/c I’m unhappy with it, just b/c I planned to upgrade every 2-3 years to keep with the latest tech and to still have some resell value. But, when it came down to it, I just didn’t see enough gain to go through all the trouble of selling my old bow and setting up a new one. They look damn near identical (which I know doesn’t mean anything), and the gains on the vertix were just not very significant. For the minimal improvement, I would have seriously considered it if it had been about a lb lighter. The halon might be the best bow mathews ever made, with the vertix making only slight tweaks to that solid design. Both are good choices if you are looking to get into a new (or new to you) bow. But, Not enough improvement to change if you have the Halon already. I am no expert on bows, that’s Just my take.

You can’t cheat the mountain

Agree with FlyGuy, I was in the same boat, shooting a Halon 5 and was planning to update to vertix this year. Wasn’t impressed enough to swap. Would be going to a slower bow that weighs a tad bit more. I will agree it is a quieter bow, but not enough to warrant a switch or speed loss. I actually like the draw cycle and shooting the Halon more than the Vertix. Ended up keeping Halon 5 and picking up a RX-3, two bows are better than one, right?

Thanks for the replies. I’ve been on the fence, but needed a little push to get off of it lol. Not sure the mods and less vibration are enough to push me to buy one. I too thought the draw cycle of the Vertix had a little bit more resistance compared to my Halon.

how is the sound between the halon and vertiz? i really liked the vertix when comparing it to the triax but havent shot a halon yet. sound is for me the most important factor in a bow
