I started this project almost a year ago. It got buried in the closet as my priorities shifted. I really like the modular system that marsupial has developed. They have mainly leaned into the bird hunting side of its potential applications. Im primarily a whitetail guy. I also use fanny packs a ton. I like the idea of a modular fanny pack that i can build custom pockets/bags/attachments for to suit my needs. I also like that i can pretty simply attach the system to a treestand. It is still in the works. Just wanted to share since the diy page has been slow lately.

Really well done bud. That edge binding is top notch. That stuff can be really challenging, especially the outside turns in my experience.

What kind of foam did you use? 1/4"? I'm looking at making some suspension components this winter, similar to Kifaru omni belt.

Thanks man. I hate edge binding with a passion. Those tighter outside radiuses are definitely a problem. I still haven't gotten acceptable results with a binder attachment. I just lay it all out with a bunch of binder clips by hand. Edge binding is by far the lowest point of craftsmanship on any project i do. I have a singer 111w153 that i need to setup as a dedicated binding machine. I don't use it anymore because it does not have reverse.

Yea it is 1/4 inch foam. EVA maybe? I bought it in a large sheet at joanns a couple of years ago and it was marketed as cosplay foam. It has worked well for my various applications, including lifting belts.

First of all that looks incredible!

Second, I can not believe that you posted this. Just yesterday I was looking at this design and was going to try and figure out how to make it myself. Thanks to you the project will be a little easier.

Cheers for the share!

PS.

I am very new to sewing but its actually been a blast to learn. It's the first time in my life I can say I wish I studied harder in math class. Anyways, I see your drawings. How do you use the drawing to transfer to the cutting of the fabric and sewing portion? I worded that horribly.

Ok, I think I bought the same foam, I'm pretty sure it said cosplay foam. I just bought a Juki DU-1181N, I'm going to find an edge binding attachment and see how it does. I haven't had much time to mess with the machine yet but I'm super happy so far.

Years ago when i got into sewing gear, i mainly did it because i wanted gear that i could not afford, such as high end frames and bags. Before long i had more invested in a good machine that what a very nice pack would cost lol. But i will also have that machine forever and it will continue to produce whatever i need.

Same here. I just enjoy making my own stuff. I got tired of having to modify my designs because my machines couldn't punch through the materials I wanted it to.

Sorry for high jacking the thread. I agree though, the diy section has been a little slow lately.

Just slow because everyone is in the woods, which is excellent! I really enjoy piddling around with some project when i have time. Extends the season and lets you do hunting stuff when stuck at home.

Made the first pouch to go on this. I would have made 2 at the same time but i wanted to make sure my pattern dimensions were good first. And apparently i need to order more zipper tape. Nothing fancy. Stretch webbing on bottom to stow a saw or whatever.

Excellent work again my friend. Is it easy to open on handed?

Yea it works well one handed, likely due to being fairly rigid. I wanted it to have some structure so it is not so floppy. Initially i planned to put some foam of some kind into it, but ultimately i decided to just try a heavier liner fabric and see how that worked. I was using fabric i had on hand for this and it was a bit of a trial run to test my pattern. Outside is 1000d. Inside is 500d. My stitch lines aren't perfect. My 1 year old was doing his best to "help" me.

I took this belt for its first outing on saturday evening for a whitetail sit. I love it already, even though it only has one pouch on it. I think I will primarily run it with just a hip pouch on each side and the back open. I used a 24" flexible gear tie to attach my bibs and jacket to the back. Carrying extra layers has always been a problem for me. I don't like taking a backpack that is big enough. Then you have zipper noise and you are digging stuff out of the bottom. The gear tie is dead silent and I can stack layers on there, so they can be selected without digging around. I can also attach rattling antlers. Carrying those has always been a pain for me. I will definitely still make a large rear pouch for stuff like scouting and carrying a bunch of trail cameras, but I am digging it as is for now.
