Manners LRH-TK vs McMillan Mountain Tracker LR, which for a backpack 7 PRC?

I’m piecing together a backpack hunting rifle and could use your guys thoughts and opinions...

Quick build outline:
• Action: Tikka (7mm Rem Mag / T3x pattern)
• Barrel: Carbon 6 prefit 24" Sendero (chambered in 7 PRC)
• Muzzle: Terminator T3 brake (won’t be running a suppressor)
• Purpose: backpack hunting / spot-and-stalk. Ideally weight matters, but I want solid precision to ~800 yds but a few lbs here and there isnt gonna kill me.

I’ve narrowed the stock choices to the Manners MCS-LRH-TK or the McMillan Mountain Tracker LR (Tikka inlet). I like the Manners because of the micro-chassis system they have. It seems like I can just drop the action in, torque it, and go. No bedding, lighter package, all very appealing for a carry rifle and something I can just buy and its ready to rock. But the Mountain Tracker LR is pretty appealing too, but, if I go that route I’ll have a smith do pillar + glass bedding. A few things I’d love feedback on from people who’ve shot either, with a 7 PRC backpack rifle, will a properly pillar+glass-bedded McMillan give any real accuracy/performance edge over the Manners LRH-TK chassis? Assume both are set up with decent rings/torque and the barrel is properly crowned/headspaced. Is there any differences you’ve seen in POI shift, zero retention, or long-term repeatability between Manners’ drop-in chassis and a bedded McMillan? Have you had any fit/feeding quirks with the Tikka inlet on either stock (magazine choices, bottom metal, etc.). And lastly, if you’ve run a 7 PRC or a 7 RM out of either of these, any other pros/cons you’d call out for a backpack hunting setup? And is there any other stocks/chassis youd suggest? I am left handed so it narrows it down. Thank you all for your help and suggestions!

If you are going to be doing much backpack hunting, even ounces will eventually matter. On the other hand, a heavier rifle is easier to shoot better, at least for me.

The McMillan site used to say that their stocks didn’t require bedding. I don’t know if it still says that. I have two McMillan stocks - one is bedded and one is not. Both rifles shoot well.

My McMillan was bedded. I’ve shot the manners LRH side by side with my McMillan, both in 7 PRC, immediately preferred the manners for fit and trigger reach. I’d chose soley on stock fit. I would also agree for a “backpack” rifle weight is more important. But if you’re truly focused on 800 yards that likely needs to be heavy enough gun that stock weight is no big deal.

I’ve owned both Manners with a mini chassis and Mcmillan’s. Mcmillans come with aluminum pillars installed the majority of the time. I have one McMillan that was bedded and it shot great. All my other mcmillans are not and shoot great. Shoot it first and only bed it if needed.

Manners shot great too. My problem with manners is the wait time. If your fine with buying something you have no input on then it’s not much of an issue if you can find them in stock.

Don’t over think it. Buy the one decide you on and go shoot.

I own both stocks but not for 7 PRC and I prefer the McMillan I haven’t bedded it and it shoots really good

Between the two, I like Manners a tad better. McMillan are nice but the outer shell is thicker and heavier. But durable. I would go with whichever is available.

Im my opinion a folding stock/chassis make a great backpack rifle. Have you considered this option?

I used to chase the options that advertised no need for bedding. After having too many issues with wandering POI, now everything gets bedded and it’s relatively simple to do. I would recommend bedding either stock and making the selection based on your other criteria.

I was talking to two gunsmiths and one was highly for bedding and the other suggested a chassis system so I didnt have to. In truth, I am kinda of doing this as a "baller on a budget" but ultimately an accurate rifle is what I am wanting.

I have but the additional cost along with lack of options for lefties has kind of put me back into the realm of a traditional stock. Also, when I am doing some prone shots in the field, I will use the brain of my bag as a shooting bag, and some of the folding stocks dont have that much butt for real estate.

Interesting that more PRS competitors shoot chassis than stocks.
As a lefty myself, I have found ambidextrous and left handed chassis much more available than conventional stocks.
It is great to have options. This year for PRS I am shooting a Foundation stock and a XLR chassis for NRL Hunter. I do think I am a bit of a anomaly, most prefer one over the other. Whatever you choose shoot it a lot.

I do like the feel and minor geometry differences in my Manners. I don’t like the fact that Manners takes FOREVER and the pillars need to be installed. Not hard, but one more part to the process. Overall, the ease of ordering and bedding gives McMillan the nod for me. Just more user friendly.
