"Mancave" Decor and Ideas

Just closed on my first house two weeks ago. What are some cool ideas or additions you have made to your hunting and fishing area of your house? My wife gave me the reins to do what I want with my basement (for now) and looking for ideas.

Any websites or stores I could check out to purchase some decorations and other stuff? I have been browsing Cabelas and Scheels Home & Hardware mostly. I also love sports so I am looking for good stores with sports memorabilia too.

I agree. Also, search out those elusive crossbreeds between a pheasant and a duck. You can figure out what to call it.

I recommend only displaying things that have some kind of story or meaning behind them: the giant deer you shot the last day of the season, the rug you bought while on deployment overseas and has AK-47s stitched into it, the "National Forest Property Behind This Sign" tin sign you found half-buried in the ground, etc. Sure, the walls may be a bit bare for a few years, but it's better than spending hundreds (or thousands) of dollars on "things" just for the sake of having "things" to look at. I would also not advocate for prominently displaying "nice camo"...mostly because I'm not sure what that gets you?

I have the normal stuff. Antlers n heads n wooden snow shoes n custom pictures painted by freinds. I also have a collection of mountain man lanterns. Some from relatives , and some my wifey bought for me thru the years. They are also nice when the power goes out

I’m with swohntr I pick antlers that mean most that have a special memory. Fortunately the wife is ok with a few antlers upstairs that go with northwest European decor The basement though is let’s say full a little snipit and the Xmas tree just went up

If you're willing to shell out the cash check out orvis, filson and best made. I have never purchased any home goods from them due to the price but they do have nice stuff if you have the disposable cash.

I'll throw in a solid recliner is a must if its going to be a man cave with a TV for sports as well.

I'll throw in a solid recliner is a must if its going to be a man cave with a TV for sports as well.

I have some axes from best made... they're working axes but the display models would look pretty sweet in a cave. Awesome axes and really good company to work with... last purchase was somewhat in bulk and they were really good people.

I second everyone else on the "items that bring back memories" I have shed antlers, and old rifle or shotgun shell boxes from the 70's make great decorations for a mancave, I have some HUGE pine cones i picked up from some pine trees in georgia, never seen any bigger than those. of course mounted critters too, deer, bear, bobcat, squirrel in my room.

I really like that we did something similar to our upstairs kitchen and my daughter's room. We are definitely doing that somewhere downstairs.

I'd start with killing enough stuff to fill up every wall in that area, and then it can naturally overflow into other rooms. Before you know it, the entire house is your trophy room.

A spare bedroom in our basement doubles as my home office/gear organizing/hunt planning room. I hung a big map on the wall of an area I am planning to hunt in the next few years to stare at and get familiar with. It was only going to be temporary but now it's become one of my favorite things in the room. Sooo... maps. Mytopo.com will make maps of specific hunting units, or standard topos, satellite imagery, and a few other options. Check them out for sure, maps are cheap compared to expensive artwork and I never get bored looking at them. If I had the coin I'd get one of the magnetic maps from hunterra, but now you're talking a few hundred dollars. One of those is on my wishlist for an area I like to hunt here in ND.
