Hello rokslide!

FNG from PA here heading out for our first Idaho diy backpack hunt in a few weeks. Were going to be in camp a good 2 days before the opening of the season and it will be our only chance to scout out the area. GE and bing maps will only take you so far obviously but it has narrowed down some spots of interest for us, but we would like to make the best use of boots on the ground before we are on the actual hunt. That being said here is our scenario. We'll be setting up camp near some high basins with thick cover, basins drop down into deep long drainages with more open ridge tops. Should we get high and glass for 2 days or not be afraid to get into the dark timber?

Trail cam . If your walking in blind it will give you another set of eyes if you find a spot of interest

I like to get up high and glass. Make sure to be at your glassing site at first light and also right at dark.

Yes we are very lucky to be able to get out and hunt when we can....my wife dosent let me forget about that. Not sure about the trail camera and Idaho's laws. But we are only going for a week and backpacking in so Im not sure how effective it would be for all the added weight.
