He in Oregon for Muzzle loader season we can use either lead or copper bullets or lead round balls ,no copper plated ,no Sabot, under 1 inch long , no polymer tip ,Loose powder ,open cap gun or action,
After last season we went very happy with the long list of bullets that we used , So we are going to try our hand at making our own, First up is one from my brother in law ,it will be lead from a ? Lyman bullet mold , He used a recipe of metal mix for the lead ,Lead, Tin , nickel ,
I will be using copper for my choice of bullet , Dave at Lehigh Bullets gave me the info about what type of copper I can use to for a bullet ,The copper will come round bar 7 feet long x .500 Dia . It will cost me 80.00 for a broach just to make the hollow point , And yes I will be getting some info from a box of Barnes XPB 275gr bullets that I have ,
This thread will be updated as testing and time allows . Robert

Do not make to many copper bullets at one time until you test each of your designs for stability... I would hate to see you make a large batch and not have them fly for you.

Depending on how many lead bullets you plan on doing you might want to consider getting an NOE copy of the Lyman mold. Over on Castboolits there's a thread about using one of the lyman designs for the 500 S&W and paper patching it to the correct diameter for the gents muzzle loader. You can get NOE molds that drop hollow points, so it would save you needing to machine the HP.

Seems odd that you'd use anything more complicated than a simple lead to tin recipe for a muzzle loader. Most guys I know of try to make muzzle loader and BPCR bullets pretty soft. I see the nickel as being used to harden the bullet up which may not be a characteristic you want when you're trying to shove down the bore of muzzle loader.

I have gotten a little side tracked , I bought a Simpson Cap sand winch from a guy here in town and have been busy getting it put back together ,,Yahoo no more dragging the game animals for miles to load them. or the sh t holes they run down into and make it hard
as heck to get out ,, no more ,,,
