If the prices get too bad they do you like I was done last year. Purchased my tickets to Newfoundland 10 months prior for $400 round trip, dirt cheap compaired to before Covid and now. As it got closer to my flight, they kept canceling the flight putting me on another, same itenary, for more money. Still came out a winner but it wound up bing $600 roundtrip, which was still a steal..

That’s crazy. I don’t mind paying a bush pilot a little more, but a major airline needs to stick to what they’ve sold as a cost of doing business. They loved that budgeted account receivable when booked. Can’t have it both ways. Shortfalls in revenue needs to be made to with future sales. IMO.

After reading this, I decided to look at booking motel rooms in Fairbanks. The same motel as last year is $100 more per night

I booked 2 flights for this September as soon as they were available. Got both flights for free with my Alaska Airlines CC points. Nice to know if anything changes, I don’t get charged extra.

A huge cost negated by the AA CC. Both of my trips to Alaska have been free flights due to my AA points. That’s a lot of money saved for me and makes this trip more cost effective then most realize.

When I took my girlfriend up to AK in June 2018, first class roundtrip airfare from SoCal was about $1900 per ticket. Booked 2 roundtrip first class tickets from Nashville to Anchorage for this June, and those tix ran about $2900 apiece.

Saving my AK airline miles for when I take my buddy and his son up for a caribou hunt in Fall 2023.

If you fellas need a rental vehicle for your trips, consider checking out Turo. I was able to get a much better price than the rental agencies were offering, and the rental vehicle supply is still not what it was before COVID.

They have already changed my flight. No big deal. Havn't changed the price. Flight changes I do think are common this far out from August. No?

Yes. You could realistically expect 1 or even 2 changes until routes get finalized.

I wouldn't get too optimistic. Last year my itinerary got changed 3 times and I ended up deciding to fly from (and home to) a completely different airport in order to stay on schedule.

you are dead on, About every 20 days I get a change. It is the fourth time. The last one sucks, A 17 hour layover in Seattle on my return. Not sure what to do yet, its on my return. I will hopefully have meat, a cape and antlers. Don't really want a long lay over with those issues. Just going to wait and see what future changes are in store, I know it is not done yet, and yes I am willing to pay to have meat shipped back, Just will wait to see my final itinerary. its like wheel of fortune,

It's like wheel of misfortune. Their algorithms and software are putting you into the holes they need filled; or plane schedules are altered due to a domino effect.

Can't advise you on a proper course of action, but you might do well to go look at available flights (as though booking a new flight) from time to time and stay current on what's available. Most airlines will allow you to change flights electively at no cost if....they've changed your itinerary; if the costs are the same or similar; if it's a different departure/arrival airport as long as it's within certain mileage parameters.

Every air traveler needs to consider the possibility of finding their flight(s) canceled or itinerary made untenable while en-route. We should always have well thought-out backup plans and a dependable credit card just in case.

Well, i just tried to pull up my American Airlines flight that I booked a month ago and they show no record of it. Nice. Guess I’ll be on the horn later today.

I had an issue last week with AK Airlines that I've never had before. I very rarely book roundtrip tickets when traveling in Alaska but I did a couple weeks ago. I finished my hunt a few days early and tried to bump up my return flight. Because it was a RT ticket and the first portion of the ticket had already been flown, they could not change my return flight. I had to cancel and then book a new flight home and pay a little extra. If I would've booked a one way flight out and then a one way return I could've just simply changed the return flight.

Maybe this is common knowledge, but I used to fly a couple times a month for work and this was the first time I had this problem. Figured maybe it could save someone the PITA that I had to go through trying to figure all this out.

I would do everything i could to not have anything to do with Seattle airport and alaska airlines. We flew through in january and was delayed multiple times for all sorts of reasons they decided to come up with. Now the inlaws had to fly through there last week and their flight was changed 3 times the day before they flew. this time they blamed in on pilots picketing for more money and being over worked. the seattle hub for alaska airlines has turned into a giant chit show and i would do everything i could to stay out of there.

Sounds lovely.

I’m flying Dallas / Ft Worth to Anchorage. Hopefully it goes okay. Will overnight in anchorage and then fly to village. One night in village and then into field. That’s the PLAN anyway. Return trip has me at anchorage airport most of the day and then overnight flight to DFW I can sleep on then quick turnaround out of there to hometown by noon. Again the PLAN.

I agree. I would really like to avoid seattle but it seems most flights that are the quickest way to fairbanks out of boise go through seattle. and the same for the return flights. I have four in half months until I leave so I know the schedule changes are not over. I will wait until the trip is closer to start stressing over it.
