Recently did a half dozen handloads to test velocity after having my 6.5 PRC barrel cut to 20". Loaded 58-60.5 grains of Magpro in .5 grain increments with new Lapua brass and 130 Nosler Accubond and CCI 200 LRP. Was hoping for a little higher velocity without having to be approaching max load of 62 grains with the Magpro. Would a slightly faster powder give me better results? Such as H4831sc or H1000?

Last night with 61 grains of Magpro 130 tho was at 3020 average. My group sucked but I’m going to change out scopes. I have an older 6,5x 20 I use for load work ups and I’m thinking have some issues with it. Trying to work the problem. I had a string loaded at 62 did not shoot due to getting dark on me. I don’t care what book says the truth lies with if you’re getting pressure or not. At 61 no sign so I will keep going up. Couple days ago with n-560 shot a beautiful group sub 1/2” 57.5 grains @ 3007 average. Last night that load was at 2” why I’m thinking I have a scope issue. I’ll keep you updated in couple days.

There is a good article on the Ultimate reloader with Magpro and H1000 in the 6.5 PRC. I some 140's loaded for testing, waiting for a little cooler mornings.

We tried Magpro in my buddies 6.5 prc and its wasn't pretty. I tried StaBall HD in my 6.5 prc and it was horrible. Velocity wasn't where it should have been. Terrible ES/SD numbers, accuracy was barely average. Then when we got the speed where it should, accuracy was no good. We converted the Magpro and StaBall HD into sighter rounds and won't revisit it.

I would say H4831sc or n565 will get the speed and accuracy you're looking form. With the 130 AB, you should be able to get 2900ish, maybe 2950. But in the end, that 20" barrel is going to reduce max speed a little.

I ran all three of those powders when I had a 6.5 PRC, 21” barrel. By far the best was H4831SC. Magpro was all over the place with pressures, only shot well with lightly compressed loads and really close to max. H1000 was OK, could never get consistent accuracy. Could do no wrong with H4831SC. I was shooting 140 Accubonds mostly
