Roughwater
WKR
I just got back from camping at Cataloochee Campground in Western NC and briefly visiting the Elk Fest in Maggie Valley which is about 45 minutes from the campground. I saw lots of Elk at Cataloochee and enjoyed the camping there very much. I was suprised to find Running water back there and power as it's 10 miles back off I-40 exit 20. The camp hostess was a very kind and helpful lady and the campers I met were great. The best part about it was seeing all the Elk back there just a walk from the campground (though most drive). Oodles of trails too and a bit of history. The elkfest was kinda small but inexpensive but offered a lot of entertainment though I wasn't able to stay to see much of it but I really enjoyed what I did see. This is their first one so I suspect it will only grow bigger. Right now the Elk can be seen just after daylight and toward dusk for the most part but I saw more in the evening than in the morning. There are several very large fields where they can be viewed. Here are some pics of the always awesome Elk:
