thats a decent compromise material. Explains the lower price points. Honestly it will probably work fine for most people.

I have not tested mine in all extremes. But it has withstood some pretty good wind and rain. I'll have it out shortly for spring bear. And see what can be thrown at it. I'm not sure if they are ykk's I could look tonight and see.
My only complaint is I'm not a fan of the curved top zipper. I think a completely vertical would work better. Also I might remove the velcro tabs that hold the flap over the zipper. They do get in the way for full 1 hand use. It makes a catch point with your hand that can shake the whole tent which I dont like when I have the stove going or any condensation in the morning.

Thanks Reaper! It does look like the stove is kind of in the entry way.

The Octopeak I'm considering has two doors, so that would give some more options with the stove.

If you give me the choice between Seekoutside or Luxe ill take Seekoutside,Luxe feel more like China but the time i used my luxe it was a good shelter.
2 doors is really a good thing and i know MontanaMarine you have a lot of experience with them from seekoutside shelters, can i ask why you are looking for a Luxe?

I'm just looking at different shelters. Something between the size of the Silvertip, and the 6-man tipi.

Trying to keep an open mind, weighing prices, specifications, etc. I'm looking at the Cimarron as well.

At the moment I do have three Seek Outside shelters, the Silvertip, 6, and 12. They are really nice. Trying to resist another shelter, but I just like things like this.....grin

So did you go with the Luxe and did you use it this spring? How did it work for you compared to the SOs?

I’ve used Luxe and SO tents and I will say that at the price point the Luxe is definitely worth it but after being in a SO I’d rather have the SO. The main reason for me being the stove jack location and the height. The Luxe Octopeak isn’t quite tall enough to stand up in and though I can deal with it, I do enjoy being able to stand completely vertical to get dressed, etc. I also hate the Luxe door. I wish they would just do what everyone else does and make it go straight up the tent versus the U shape door that Luxe does. Like I said for the price point I can put up with minor things like that but other than that the Luxe is bomb proof. I also purchased an adjustable pole from Bear Paw Wilderness that I think is a little more durable than the pole Luxe offers.

Would you conisder the Octopeak to be a true backpack tent ? Does it pack up nicely ? Would it work for 2 man car camping with cots and stove as well ? Looking for a dual purpose rig.

Thanks for this insight. What stove do you use with it?

I don't think canvas, nylon, the other fabrics in general are going to trap large amounts of heat. I'm sure those more knowledgeable will chime in. Canvas breaths a bit while some of the other fabrics do not. Again to a lesser or greater extent. Condensation on the inside of the tent will result if the fabric cannot breath. Other things to think about. Durability under snow load, wind, extended exposure to elements. Fabric too close to the stove what will happen? One can go the canvas route of the snowtrekker and atuk tents or the other route like kifaru, seek outside and so forth......people seem to use both......mode of transport of the tents can have an impact also......canvas can be a challenge to tote on one back, hense the pulk and tobogans....

Something like the luxe or so's do not really trap heat. You can defanitly bake yourself out of one with a stove whyll it is going. But you can alwase feel the temp drop once it goes out.

Lite Outdoors 18” but I have used the SO outside stoves too. The LiteOutdoors stoves just pack up better in my opinion.

It does pack up very well for its size and weighs approx. 5 lbs with pole and stakes. It really depends on height of the cots. If they are low profile cots then I would think so but it wouldn’t fit those giant cots with a stove. I only use a ground sheet and blow up pad because I do most of my camping on back pack trips and it would sleep 3 with a stove semi comfortably with a little bit of gear and two very comfortably with a lot of gear.
