I was hunting up in Okanagan County here in WA about 20 years ago or so, and was driving a FS road when I came to the US-Canadian border. I could have driven right in. Nobody there, no cameras, just a sign saying it was the border. I have to wonder how many others there were and who was coming into the US on those.

I'm 100% pro-tariff on manufactured goods produced in Mexico and other cheap labor countries. In my family business's line of work(manufacturing), our biggest competitor jumped the border at the time NAFTA. They went through bankruptcy prior to that. They now own about 70% of the market. They put stickers on their products that say "American Company, Family Owned" with a big American flag on it, while they make their products for cheap in Mexico. They're located in So Cal and produce products in Tijuana.

The Midwest is littered with similar stories. Small towns and vibrant businesses that were gutted because we were sold the lie that a rising tide lifts all boats. Great, so Americans get a bunch of cheap crap that they'll throw away in a year? Oh my food will get more expensive! We throw away half of our food in this country. Mexico isn't to blame for this, of course they'll take the work that's offered to them. The Mexican people are generally good hard working folks. The people to blame are the business interests and politicians that profited on the demise of the American middle class, all while selling them on some BS story that they'll have more buying power. Great, so we lose millions of quality American jobs but at least we got big TVs!

I'm not Trump's biggest fan but I was darn happy on Saturday. Then I saw the news that the tariffs kick in on Tuesday and knew that come Monday we'd be backing down. Keeping a campaign promise we were told on Saturday. Today, it's "Oh, never mind, mission accomplished." What a joke.

Trump hasn't even been in a month yet. Why don't we see what he can do before we start bitching about everything. I don't care if gas is $5/gallon and eggs are $10/dozen for a year if he can actually fix our broken system. I believe in what he's doing. I'm praying his cabinet gets approved. He can be a complete ass and say some incredibly stupid things, but I know he loves this country and will do his best. If he didn't, he could be playing golf and banging super models instead of getting shot at and losing hundreds of millions of dollars.

Being a Canadian all I have to say is, can we please for the love of F@ck get someone in who will tighten our borders and actually give a f@ck.

Tariffs will hurt both sides of the border, but will that stop me from looking to buy American made? Not a chance, Americans produce so of the best hunting and shooting equipment you can buy. Do I think some people support them without knowing how they actually work? 100% they do, Trump said it’s what has to happen so they just blindly follow, the same way people here followed our wanna be leader without actually knowing.

In the end no one wins, except for maybe Trump and his billionaire buddies.

Few years back lumber prices were sky high due to Covid "shortage" yet I live in a place surrounded by mills and they were packed to the brim with lumber. It was all bullshit and they charged $10 for a stud because they could.

When you in implement tariffs to push for help securing the border and one of the larger cartels heads is taken out by the tariffed country…. I’d say they listened to our demands of slowing down illegal immigration( which cartels run) and drugs (which cartels run)….

Now is it just to eliminate competition amongst cartels who knows, but cartels control is part of the demands of the U.S.
Well if the cartel will shut down now that that one 27 year old kid is arrested, that sounds great. Who knew, one guy, and they fold and go home.

I see Peter Navarro is the top trade advisor - when did he get out of prison? I’m not joking, thought he was upstate, until today. I’ll have to lean you guys the next few years to keep all the drama straight. We have different betting pools for which cabinet member will quite first, which will get canned first, and which will go to prison first.

You obviously have no experience with how tariffs work…

So best I can make of it, lumber prices are pretty volatile and there are a lot of variables, OP should just order when he’s ready to build. At the rate of current politics, who knows where we will be in a few months.

most sheet goods (Osb, plywood) are us products made with chip pine from the south. dimensional lumber is a product of Canada. at least it is here where i build

Not hard to fathom when you live in a liberal state and can throw an empty Molson’s bottle into Canada.

I live in the south and can’t recall EVER seeing a piece of wood with “Canada” stamped on it. Ever.

Why isn’t anyone bragging about steel tariffs from his last presidency? Remember the washer drier tariffs? It’s such a beautiful thing - I believe he said love of country, love of religion, love of family and fourth is love of tariffs.

Anyone know why this steel mill shut down after the tariffs? Just curious.

Tariffs are always a bad idea, but it's hilarious how the TDS folks are crying all of the sudden. They were quiet when the Biden admin imposed tariffs.

Where do you live? You might want to visit the border some.
I’m all in favor of closing the boarder, but doesn’t he know how to do that already? He said he knew how.

Speaking of that, if we could be serious for a minute. I encourage everyone to send Steve Bannon as much money as possible to help finishing the boarder wall. Every last dime - cash out your retirement if need be. We can trust him. It was the deep state that made him take the money last time.
