I’m getting a 300 prc ready for a friend, I have some 212 eldx bullets but haven’t started load work. So many choices now. Will be used in Utah for elk. Wondering if this is the best choice before I start or should I go with a Berger or Nosler ? Any feedback is sure appreciated

200 gr. Accubond ! I sure like how they (Accubonds) have performed on game and in testing shooting them into gallon water jugs lined up from 25-100-200-300-400-500 yards. They are impressive and with the speeds you can get with the PRC they would work to perfection close up and far away.

300 WSM - 180 gr. Accubond shot into water jugs at 500 yards.

Penetrated 5 water jugs (over 30" of penetration) and almost made it into #6!

As it was found. For clarity, there were three rows of 6 gallon jugs placed tight together. I had removed the 5 that the bullet destroyed before I took the pictures.

How far are you wanting to be able to kill an elk?

I ask since the Accubonds are great but they run out of steam relatively quickly. Then on the opposite side the ABLR and ELD-X, just two examples, are great for long range but may have issues on closer shots (depending on shot placement).

Figure out your use case(s) and then look at a 2-3 options and see what the rifle likes. While you may prefer a specific bullet, the rifle may not like it. I just went through this on hand loads for a 6.5 CM. I wanted 143 grain ELD-X but that rifle loves the 129 grain ABLR.

I believe he will be hunting in the uinta mts. So ranges will vary. I’m hoping to have it ready early so he can test to range. The 212’s were already on the shelf but I’ve still got time to build something different. He’s pretty good at tracking/stalking but the area might make it difficult

The reason I asked about how far your friend wanted to kill an elk, is:
* 212 gr ELD-X will carry 1800 FPS to about 900 yards (not accounting for environmentals)
* 215 gr Berger will carry 1800 FPS to about 975 yards (not accounting for environmentals)
* 200 gr Accubond will carry 1800 FPS to about 775 yards (not accounting for environmentals)

May not matter but there you go.

I used the 225 eld in my PRC last year. I didn't like on game performance so I'll go with either the 215 Berger or 245 Berger if I can get either to shoot accurately.

That’s appreciated. I’m going to load for the Berger then. Do you think there’s any advantage besides bc for the 242? Or the extra speed would be better of the 212

Excellent. I really appreciate this. Hate to spend time and then realize there was a better choice. Thanks for all the inputs

After seeing a couple of people getting over 2900 with a 245. I would say the 245 has some room at the table.

Wow! That sounds unsafe. I was going to stay with h1000 and Berger has it less than 2800 at max load. It’s a 26” barrel. Not to say it couldn’t be done but I’m loading it for a friend lol

You need some VV570 or RL 26 in your life.

I shoot VV570 and 245s in my terminator. At 28 degrees my velocity was around 3105. At 78 degrees my velocity was around 3118.
