This is exceptionally helpful. Thank you! That SRS sticks out really far. Area 419 is much slimmer.

Does the area 419 mount fit a rounded stock? I emailed them last week and got no response.

Or Salmon River Solutions, but they are much higher profile. I’m torn between the two.The a419 rail is completely flat. On a rounded stock it will not have much purchase and will likely have some flex.
Check out the sawtooth rail, it’s thin like the 419, but has two ridges to make the contact patch bigger on a rounded stock.
What stock are you putting it on?Or Salmon River Solutions, but they are much higher profile. I’m torn between the two.
One is a Browning Hells Canyon speed and the other is a B&C sporter. I am getting a rail for mounting an atlas with arca clamp and also for a ball head tripod with arca clamp. What stock are you putting it on?
But in practice on a tripod not so.so it seems like mounting feather forward, like a bipod, would be better.
Even off a lightweight CF tripod? I’m not shooting off a RRS tripod. It’s going to be my backpack tripod, so it will almost function, when seated, as a tall bipod. But in practice not so.
At the moment, my plan is to put a shorty SRS arca rail up at the swivel stud and mount a lower profile 419 back towards the mag well. I’ll get the option for both and not have to carry around a full 12” rail. Is that a reasonable plan? But in practice on a tripod not so.
I'm interested in this also, having just bought a good lightweight CF tripod and deciding how to set up my rifle for itEven off a lightweight CF tripod? I’m not shooting off a RRS tripod. It’s going to be my backpack tripod, so it will almost function, when seated, as a tall bipod.
The lightest I’ve shot off of is an Outdoorsmans aluminum and I’d still rather have the mid mount right in front of the mag. I do have an SRS ArcaPic rail up front on a lighter rifle and it does okay but I still lean towards the mid mount. It leaves you feeling like you want rear support but it’s workable for shorter distances. The only time I might think the up front might be better is if I were shooting prone off the tripod like you would be with a bipod and a rear bag. If you think you can always build a rear support with a pack or something you’d probably be fine with the upfront mount. Shorter distances you’d probably be fine.Even off a lightweight CF tripod? I don’t see why using two shorter rails wouldn’t work.At the moment, my plan is to put a shorty SRS arca rail up at the swivel stud and mount a lower profile 419 back towards the mag well. I’ll get the option for both and not have to carry around a full 12” rail. Is that a reasonable plan?
This leaves me wondering if the way to go is two low-profile ARCA mounts on the rifle... one at the balance point for sit/kneel/standing shots, and one towards the front for prone shots. The lightest I’ve shot off of is an Outdoorsmans aluminum and I’d still rather have the mid mount right in front of the mag. A very rounded foreend the srs might fit a little better. Honestly on a thin sporter stock I’d use a picatinny, but you need a head that will take both then. One is a Browning Hells Canyon speed and the other is a B&C sporter. I have, and now do what I said above. In fact I have holes sitting vacant on a few of my rifles because of this. This leaves me wondering if the way to go is two low-profile ARCA mounts on the rifle... one at the balance point for sit/kneel/standing shots, and one towards the front for prone shots.
Has anyone done this and have feedback?
The sawtooth looks higher profile than the Area-419. Is that correct or just the picture?A very rounded foreend the srs might fit a little better. Honestly on a thin sporter stock I’d use a picatinny, but you need a head that will take both then.

Here’s an srs, a419, and sawtooth.
Personally I prefer a long enough rail on the foreend so that I can mount on my tripod with my bipod still attached. I shoot my hunting weight rifles from a more forward position and prefer it over right up on the magazine well. I have had plenty on the mag well, and with a stiffer, heavier gun I can still see that working well, but Iv come to prefer a little further out, even with rrs legs. Plus I hate carrying an arca rail.
If I were currently getting a stock cut for a rail I’d have one spaced for the long sawtooth. I also have a couple RRS universal rails that are solid. Both of these have rlok pin holes which are another thing that I prefer now, that may not be applicable for someone without a newer anvil.
It is a thicker rail. The sawtooth looks higher profile than the Area-419. Is that correct or just the picture?
