Hey all. I have on a pair of Tibets and I'm finding them very comfortable here in the kitchen. Lots of great reviews and I think they are going to work well for me. Before I get them dirty and unreturnable I'm curious what problems others might have experienced with them after break in?

The fit is very good. I normally wear a size 9 and have a wide foot so I ordered a 9.5 in the wide version. There is room in the foot box to move my toes but not excessive. Ankle fit is very comfortable with great support.

Any thoughts you can share would be appreciated. These are a huge step up from my Asolo's which are much lighter weight boot. The other boot I was looking at is the Zamberlan Vioz GT.

Thanks all.

I have the leather lined version and had the tall insulated lowas before. one thing i noticed is i tend to tighten my boots more when im in the mountains climbing steep hills and side slopes than when im wearing them around town. after walking around the mountains with then tighter, i found they did not fit as well as i thought they did compared wearing them around the house and such. your no doubt different, but its a consideration i take when sizing boots now. all my firefighting buddys love that boot

Perhaps you have, but I suggest you use the search bar to search for "Lowa Tibet" also "Lowa Tibets" there are a number of long/solid posts already on the site RE these boots, their capabilities and breaking them in, etc. They are great boots!
Please do get back to me if you have more specific questions after reading those.

Best,
JL

Thank you for the replies. I assure the group I've read almost all that I could find on the boots before forking over the cash.

So my specific question is if they fit great now with my poly liner sock and a Darn Tough wool sock, will the break in process open them up and make them sloppy in the footbox or will they conform more to my foot? Said another way, should they fit slightly tight when new or comfortable? Based on what I've read I don't expect them to give out much and I should start putting them to use as they feel great now.

I've noticed a softening in the flex point at the front of the boot but nothing I would call sloppy. The nice part about these boots is the lacing system, which allows you to really lock down your heel.

I bought a pair of 10.5 wide's (the size I normally wear) for a great price in the classifieds but with a darn tough mid hiker and liner, I need another half size up because my pinky toe hits the side of the toe box.

The Zamberlans Voiz plus GTX is what L&S normally recommends if you have a wide foot.

I ran my for three years great boot, little on the heavy side, but one of the most comfortable boots I've worn( after a good 60us miles to break them in)

The Tibets will break in at the crease of the big toe/metatarsal joint. It will take a number of days of hiking. Once that happens, they will be very slightly wider. I have had zero issue with the boots overstretching or blowing out. I strongly suggest getting them wet, then hiking. This will speed the metatarsal crease formation.

I strongly recommend insoles that match your arch, this will help your foot lock in place when you're moving steeply downhill. Your foot will feel rock-solid in the boot. My foot is lower volume- i.e. low arch, so this is really necessary. I use "SOLE" heat moldable, thin format insoles. They are super easy to heat-form and are the bomb (for me anyway). Run them in my Asolos, Caminos and Tibets. I have never had a foot issue yet, with them.

hope this helps!

Also, I only wear one pair of socks. Never a liner.
Typically Smart Wool PhD medium weight crew hikers.
I never would have thought that socks made such a profound difference.

Amazing socks.

Thank you all for the replies, this was the insight i was looking for. I haven't picked a insole yet but leaning towards Superfeet Green or the Synergy but will investigate the Sole brand as well.

If you do the Sole insoles, don't do the high volume ones. The blue ones in the signature line. I tried them in my Tibets and they raised my heels up too high and I got blisters. So I put them in my larger Meindls and they are great. I think the red ones might be better for the Tibets. I've run the Superfeet in them as well, they're ok but I am going to try the red Soles or the Synergy.

I thought I'd write a quick thread update. I ended up keeping the 9.5 wides but to be sure they were going to be correct I ordered a pair of 10 wide. As I wrote above my normal size is a 9 and I've read recommendations for both a half to full size larger than normal. Most of what I read in rokslide and other forum posts was the half size larger is typical and that worked well for me. The 10's were just too big, to the point where they were uncomfortable walking around and on stairs at home.

To start the largely unnecessary breakin process I wore them for four or five hours with snowshoes for shed hunting on Saturday and they were awesome. Very pleased. Thank you all for the help.

I spoke with Steven at L&S just last week and he spoke very highly of Tibet "wides" for me ? Never mentioned Zamberlains

I'd offer 2 bits of advice at this point - buy your boots in person at a store that sells more than one brand and you'll know when you have a knowledgeable sales/ fitter working with you AND go fitting in the AFTERNOON

As for Tibets, nobody has had more trouble with boots and feet in their life than I have yet in 5 pairs (so far) of Lowas I have not spent one single hour on "break in" which illustrates one of two possibilities, wither Lowa makes outstanding boots or "everyones" feet are different and nobody can offer another accurate advice about boot fit

Some people are lucky enough to be able to wear just any boot and some are proned to be "high maintenance" boot customers, life is tough ....
