Lost river range Idaho – sidearm needed?

I’ll be in the lost river range at the end of the month, wanted to know if a side arm was needed while backpacking? Thanks

Why do you think you need one? There are black bears, wolves and lions, I never carry a sidearm but I guess it's better to have one and not need it then.........

I have got to the point where I always carry in the woods. I have ran into enough 2 legged crazies to not want to be wishing I was. Animals are not the only problems
