In a predicament I want a lighter glassing jacket but can’t get over how durable and warm the lost park jacket is, anyone ever switch to the super down from the lost park or any other similar experience?

Would the super down pro be a better comparison for warmth?

I have worn the pro, it is very similar in size as the LP. That’s why I chose the smaller version. Takes up less room and I would rather layer it with other items.

Probably but I feel like the pro is over priced, not gonna spend $400 on a jacket if it’s the same warmth as my LP. Just wondering if I can be as warm with the ultra and be lighter.

If I spend $400+ on a puffy it’s gonna be a Permafrost from Montbell but it’s like 24oz. 9oz of fill though. To compare weights and fills, the Alpine Light Parka is closer to the Super Down Pro.

Alpine Light parka
14.2oz
4.8oz of 800FP down
$239

Super down pro
13.4oz
5oz 850FP down
$400

3840 cu inches of loft in the Alpine Light vs 4250 in the Super Down. So ~11% more insulation in the Kuiu for just over 4% weight savings + fashionable camo. Unless my napkin math is off. somewhere.

I wouldn't pay the $400 personally, but the difference definitely exists. The higher you go in quality, the more you pay for small increments.

To the OP, I don't have either jacket, but I really think they are completely different products with completely different proposes. UL warmth for backpacking vs bomb-proof heavy insulation for terrible conditions.

I run the LPP for colder conditions, the Kuiu Kenai jacket for warmer ones. It has been a good system for me. If I'm in doubt I always take the LPP. The Kenai is pretty warm with a windproof layer (Sitka Mountain Jacket for me) over it. It's very quiet but not as tough or weather resistant as the LPP.
