Looking for michigan buddy!

I’ve been hearing that it’s harder and harder to draw tags and I should be getting ready to start accumulating points but I don’t know where and I’m not ready to roll next year. I’m also not horribly interested in putting thousands of dollars down before I draw - maybe I’m misunderstanding the system.

I’m also not interested in drawing a tag and rolling in so where without understanding how to hunt that species. It would feel like a waste to me.

So I would watch some of Randy Newberg’s YouTube videos, they helped a lot. I would also start figuring out what you want to hunt, species wise.

I’m in the same boat, figured I wanted to expand on species 2 years ago and kinda have some understanding but not as much as I would like with the western states tag system. Hoping to do a spring bear hunt this upcoming April to get my foot into the door of out west.

Heck yeah. Spring bear is on my list to get out and do. I’ve been putting in points for a few years now, still learning how it all works. I’m in Wyoming now chasing some antelope.

Good morning, fellow Michiganders
South-Eastsider here, while Michigan deer hunting is always nice, it's time for a new experience. We're putting the final touches on our prep before heading west for an October elk hunt,

How’d everyone’s hunts end up this year? Moved the wife and kids back to Mi from WA this summer. Ended with 7 does: two archery Wi on public, 1 NY archery on private, then 4 with a 350L on private around Fowlerville area. Miss hunting mountain critters, but hunting a few new states helped scratch the itch!

Love the pic of the lion. Always been one of my dream hunts. Welcome back to Michigan and some cold weather.

Thanks! Lion was honestly a fluke, was headed up the mountain day before muley opener and came across her stalking a doe. Was super pumped to tag one! Love to run them with hounds sometime.

Hello all, for you guys looking to dip your toes out west it is application season currently, unfortunately you have missed a a few. But they are harder to draw states anyways. Best thing I got for you is take it state by state pic 2 or 3 you want to hunt and figure them out before you move on or you will get overwhelmed and be chasing your tail. It’s going to take a few years to learn them all if that’s what you want to do.. also start a note chart in your phone or on paper to refer back to. Colorado applications start April 1 they still offer some zero point units. They will be harder snd less desirable hunts but you still get out west and start to learn how it all works. If that’s not what you’re looking to do it’s also the time to just get yourself a point. Your looking at 9$ a point and about 100$ for the general license to apply for the draw, or buy the points, if your looking to chase some mule deer ND and Nebraska are decent options you can get into cheaper with only 0-3 points. but you may struggle to find deer without a good amount of resource and pre scouting. Non the less it’s a trip and a experience you won’t forget and after all what’s life without memory’s !! Good luck to all, if your looking for anymore info or want to meet up shoot the shit and shoot some bows reach out. Located around Grand blanc Mi.

Building off of this: if you want an affordable western hunt OTC bear tags in Washington and Oregon are very affordable and target rich. Great way to get in an out west hunt, test gear, and build memories. Seasons start in August, before mid west deer seasons.
