I traded for this REM 700 in .243 last October. The gun shop told me the previous owner had blueprinted the action and it was a REM 700 AAC SD that originally came in the Hogue stock. Gun is shooting Hornady 95gr SST’s well under MOA.
Gun currently has;
16.5” Bull barrel
- Bell & Carlson Light Tactical thumb hook style stock- glass bedded
- Trigger Tech Special @ 2#
-Weaver Rail & Rings
- Vortex Crossfire scope
- YHM Resonator K suppressor
I mainly deer hunt Georgia and already have a “light weight” rifle for closer range stuff. Now I’m looking to build out this rifle for longer range stuff I.E. clear cuts, gas & power lines, pasture, AG fields etc…
“Long Range” for us is 200-500 yards btw. Weight isn’t an issue for this particular rifle.
I’m torn as far as optics. Base & Rings will be Nightforce.
Optically I’ve debated a Nightforce SHV 4-14x50 F1 Mil-R, Trijicon Credo 2.5-15x56 in SFP, and I also own an SWFA 5-20x50. I’m not opposed to suggestions.
**I prefer larger objectives & magnification for positive target ID. The properties I hunt have very strict harvest objectives**
Given what I’ve listed above, what scope would you go for?
- Do you think a FFP vs SFP benefit me here?
