Heck why not get a cow elk license, fishing license and game bird license and come out to Wyoming for a couple of weeks in Fall and have an adventure DIY.
Might as well pick up a black bear license too, you might just see and get to shoot a wolf too.

I would absolutely do an OTC DIY for a cow elk. I would like to go with a rifle this year. It looks like Wyoming already closed the Elk drawing. I basically want to do as much hunting as I can before I can't. I've been volunteering for the RMEF for over 15 years. A couple "old guys" when I started back then, gave the advice of they only regretted not starting that type of hunting sooner. My first western hunt was in 2015. I've been very fortunate to get to travel more than most.

I’m going to second that. Fun trip. No pressure and high success. While the elk application. May be closed. You should check back when leftover licenses become available. This is probably the best suggestion you have received so far.

$10,000 budget will stretch a lot further in southern Africa or New Zealand. Your post says Western States but I wouldn’t discount an overseas hunt - more value for your money.

Budget $3,000 for your airline and other incidentals and $7,000 for your hunt. Lots of possibilities in Africa or New Zealand for that fee.

Best of luck and happy hunting, TheGrayRider a/k/a Tom.
