Good question. I’ve never had a good spotting scope, just a couple cheap lower end scopes. I don’t know much about them. I know I don’t want a fixed power and I am leaning more towards giving angled a try. I guess nothing smaller than 15-45x55 I mostly rely on reviews from this site.I was just going to see what presented itself and go from there.

I had seen a few Kowa’s and older Leica’s in the classifieds go for around $950-$1,100. Maybe something in that ballpark.

There are a ton of positive reviews on those Athlon Ares. If I can’t stumble across something over the next few days and that one is still available then I’ll probably just settle for that one and save some cash.

The older Leica Televids are very good. They were made in 62 and 77mm. The 77mm were 20X60, not sure about the 62's.

Well, I received about 10 spotting scopes for sale. A buddy I work with brought in a angled spotter today so I could check it out and I really liked it. While searching reviews for each scope that I was offered, on basically every review there was people saying how much they loved those ares. So I went with that angled Athlon Ares 15-45x65. Must be a pretty darn good scope.
