going to go with a tipi tent and was wondering if anyone has a suggestion on a lightweight light option for inside. would prefer more of a lantern style. I will have my headlamp with me but want something else for when were sitting around the stove.

Walmart sells cheep round LED lights that run on AA batteries.one set of AAs last me nearly a week

I use that light too, works great in a tipi.

Take the batteries out while transporting or it will be on and wasting batteries in your pack.

Try a Luci. I order a few of them as gifts. They say 4 oz but were 3.5 on my scale. Suprised at the amount of light one puts out for 12 hrs. Would work great inside a tent. Check out the reviews via google. Quite a few hikers are really happy with them. Just deflate flat and stick on back of your pack to recharge.

When backpacking, I just use one of my cheap back-up 3-LED headlamps. I usually just find a native pole
and leave a few of the limbs on for hanging headlamp off of and drying socks & clothes.

With the mules (where weight isn't as big an issue), we run std 1lb propane bottles on a small single mantle Primus Mighty-Lite 5400 lantern. The old aluminum 5400 is THEE lightest propane single mantle I've found. The newer ones are brass and much heavier. For those choosing to run an Iso-butane version, there's the Snow-Peak gigapower Mid Lantern.

I picked up one of the $9 ones from Walmart. Not too bad as it's just over 5oz with the generic batteries it comes with in it. Just playing around, I can use a stuff sack or a piece of clothing and wrap it around either the stock SL5 pole or trekking poles in tent pole configuration. Then just lodge the light down on top and you can have a nice light way up top or move everything down to a lower level. I don't know how much it will get used when hunting as I always have at least one headlamp but it will be nice for more recreational camping in the tipi.
