Looking at going to Alaska this coming September 2025 for a DIY moose hunt. Doesn't look like any of my personal hunting contacts are able to go this year as of now, but still have some time. Will be flying to AK from Wisconsin. Looking at a minimum of a 2 week trip for a fly in drop camp. I've been on a couple float hunts for moose and caribou, also a drop camp for moose and numerous Western state hunting. I've got a couple units in mind, and they are OTC tags. I made some initial contacts. Just have to confirm. I'd prefer to hunt with someone for safety and the work that will be involved in doing the moose trip. If you are looking for an AK hunting adventure this coming fall let me know and we can further discuss. We got time to plan. Last time I was up I started making plans in July. My wife and I went hunting and had a great time but wasn't able to connect on a legal bull.

Yes, I made some calls a while back, couple months ago. Both pilots in one area said they could get me out. One was more open than the other. One guy said he didn't have any hunters on the schedule yet but would do probably just a couple groups.

Another pilot I flew with before had some openings but I had no confirmed plans. Looking at unit 9 or 17. Basically I just have to get in touch and hope it's a go.

I'm already dialed in for my Moose and Caribou hunt. My partner and I have dialed in two different pilots. We had our flights partially paid by Feb 2025 with our locations on the map. The Caribou leg is 7 days and the Moose leg is 10 days. The complexity of a hunt like this are real and it sounds like you have your segments dialed in. I'll spend aprox 6k in misc expenses to complete a DIY Moose and Caribou hunt. I have great partner that I've enjoyed hunting with for a very long time.
Between the interpersonal dynamics, costs, time requirements, and gear needs I can only imagine the difficulty of finding the right person to join you. Especially if it's a hunting partner also wanting a harvest. Now ya got non-resident fees to contend with, long flights and cargo costs. An AK hunting expedition is a carefully curated endeavor. Good luck finding the right homie.

I am interested. My partner had to drop last minute. I have a Holy Cross hunt DIY lined out 15 day. 9/10-9/25

I don't think I can send a PM yet. I just signed on for an AK trip in August with some friends but going back in September may be a possibility. Would be a pretty quick turn-around for trips.

Dang, been wanting to go to AK. I cannot find someone to commit to a DIY hunt like this. Would really like to find a hunting partner to build a relationship with for western hunts. If you were looking earlier in the year, and I had more time to prepare, I’d be in.

Good luck with your search, and your hunt.

Ok sounds good. I can't send a PM yet either but have a hunt lined out in Alaska already this fall and my buddy just backed out on me. Looking for someone to fill his spot. It's a great area.

If you think you could make the time and trip pm me! It's all lined out and ready to go. My buddy just had some things go south so he cant make it now.

Really curious if this came together and how it went. Finding a hunting partner is harder than finding a wife!🤣

I've done AK a couple of times since w3 moved back to Wisconsin. Gotta have the right stuff in a hunting partner!

Hope you were successful in having an amazing adventure and lucky enough on top of that to harvest a moose!

Never ended up doing the moose hunt. I ended up doing a trip to AK in August with some friends that asked me to go fishing; also a potential chance at doing some Caribou and wolf hunting. After I committed to the August trip there seemed to be some more interest from others on the moose hunt but it wasn't going to work for me; also saw some others that were looking for the same thing but I already had August trip plans.
Ended up flying to AK and hang out for a few days. We rebooked our flights and flew home early. Never got out in the field due to the rains that caused the river to raise and affected our drop off point. First time I've had that happen in which the trip plans got canceled. Was up there on another trip one year and came close to the same thing but we were able to get out after a 3-day lay in due to weather. Much longer than that we'd probably would have had to cancel because we had a river float trip to do and we had to get to our pickup spot at a certain time.
Am from Wisconsin too. Alaska is on my list for a potential hunt trip next fall again; see what happens
