Looking at new range finders

Looking at new rangefinders , these are the two I’m looking at. Both looking similar, any advice good or bad on either.
Vortex Razor HD 4000
Or
Leupold RX -full draw 5

Used for archery only

For a little more I'd opt for a Leica CRF-Pro

I've had a Leopold RXi something for about 6 years....perfect

I have the old brick Leica- its good

I've used Nikon too- worked great. The only one I had fail was 20 years ago - a Bushnell Scout

I use a vortex hunting because of the warranty, for the accuracy, I have been using the Bushnell.




Leupold won't get anymore of my money. I bought a original angle compensating RF from them, and a few days(3 I think) past a year they wouldn't warranty it. That's on top of issues I have had with their other optics.

Only issue I had with the Bushnell was one shoot fog was so thick it wouldn't read, but it was also thick enough I couldn't see enough out of my peep to shoot.

I have the Full Draw 4 and it's been great for me. Angle compensation has always been spot on and the apex flight path visual has also been pretty damn good. Put it to the test at TAC this summer where it was showing me that my only way to hit the 50 yard target was to arch over a branch in the middle. It showed me going straight through the gap and I'll be damned that's exactly where the arrow flew.

I also got mine from EuroOptic about this time two years ago on sale for about 20% off. Killer deal

I've been happy with my Sig rangefinder. It has my rifle compensating ballistics built into it. A friend of mine had an issues with his, the laser was off a little. Not bad enough to use, Sig ended up replacing it with a better model.

It would be nice to have some dope on my rangefinder for archery season. I passed on a bull at 60 yards this year because I didnt know if my arrow was going to hit a branch 30 yards out or not.

Still using the Leupold fulldraw 2 since it was released (bought when someone stole a heap of my gear including my Nikon Archers choice). Zero issues with the fulldraw and It’s on its 3rd battery at least, been to 4 countries and helped me take a few hundred animals or more. Readings are bang on even on steep shots. So much so, that I use it for every shot and only use the rangefinder on the Leica Geovids to plan a stalk.

I know 2 handfuls of guys that switched from whatever rangefinder they had to a fulldraw, once their rangefinder failed to in fog, or failed to range in general and I had to range for them. Happens helping new guys every year.

As far as warranty, only one mate has had a claim on a leupold fulldraw. Flooding raised the river he backs onto and he had to evacuate before about 3ft of water went through his house. His rangefinder was under water and mud for a week before he found it. Not working, no receipt and he hadn’t registered - whether that matters or not. He contacted them, told them what happened, sent it in and they sent him a brand new one. Neither of us were expecting that.

I have one of the bushnells with arc from 12 years ago. I've gone through maybe 3 or 4 batteries with it. and its still clicking along. I still use it out of convenience even though I have a Sig Kilo 10k. If I bought another handheld now it would either be a vortex or a leica

Full Draw 4 user here and super happy with it. Going on 4 years with it I believe. Bought it used and have had zero issues.

Do you shoot multiple pins? Not sure if you know this tactic but if you have multiple pins you range the obstacle(branch) and if it as 30 yards and you then hold your 60 yard pin on the target and look at your 30 yard pin you can tell if your arrow will hit it or not. If the 30 yard pin is under or over the branch in the way you are good.

Unfortunately the downside to shooting a sliding single/double pin....

Ya I wouldn’t shoot one for spot and stalk hunting but that’s just my opinion.

Vortex has the lifetime warranty. That's what ultimately sold me on it. Good fov especially for archery and clear. I had an older nikon archer choice that gave me a difficult time once in awhile because of my glasses but haven't had any of them issues with the vortex. I assume it was simply the eye cup but at times I'd have to fidget the nikon to be able to see through it
