Moose gun season starts today. I like to do moose calls from the yard. Grandson actually was doing cow in heat calls before he could walk. Pretty good too !
Was putting around one afternoon n calling. Pulled in this little over 40 bull. Had a camera phone and took some pictures of him charging. Had a willow tree between us. That was kinda cool n pictures too boot.
I called in a nice bull. Hunting buddy took a shot just as it turned away, perfect Texas bulls eye. I found him in a willow patch laying flat on belly. Went to touch eye with rifle n he stood up. That got my attention fast.
One night about 2 in the morning my neighbor calls. Bull moose caught in her fence. And it was a big bull with big antlers. Got his back legs tangled in a 6"×6" wire fence. Weaved his leg in there. And couldn't get up on the iced over snow. Had to cut him out n he was not happy about it. When he got loose n stood up. The steam was flowing out his nostrils like a steam locomotive. Gave me a nasty stink eye look n split. I went looking for him next day. His tracks indicated he was OK.
Was out on snogos with beautiful wife. There was a natural gas exploratory well fenced in along the siemec trail. And a yearling calf stuck inside. The gates were bent enough to get in. Had this cow chasing me for an hour while I was trying to get a frantic yearling through a closed gate. And there was a forest fire recently prior so had to jump pixie stick black spruce trees. Got it out though.
Have a moose jump out on a snogo trail in front of you and have 500 pounds of freight behind you pushing momentum towards a moose, get ya going.
Hey guess it's moose hunting season. Well bears n birds too. So gotta get hyped up a bit. Tiss the season, hunting season. And time for hunting stories
The little guy in the back of the Elco broke the door down to the hay shed n took up residence in it for 10 days or so. Moose can't digest hay so starved to death. It was used by a girl studying veterinarian and she had sled dogs. 99AA6B0F-D1E2-4493-AB7B-52DC773F6E62.jpeg387D1C19-3DD3-49BE-A034-E35FAAB9F887.jpeg387D1C19-3DD3-49BE-A034-E35FAAB9F887.jpeg20240922_160559.jpg1000005745.jpg

I gained a great appreciation for moose when helped a guy fill his once-in-a-lifetime Idaho tag. They have a charisma when they show up in the woods all the sudden. Neat animals.
