After going through Luke's LH lid weight thread I am wondering if anyone takes the lid off and uses it as a waist pack?

My G2 LH guide is all original, and I am considering taking the knife to it to start shaving oz for the sheep hunt. It came with a complete hunter orange kit to be velcroed on. That is not useful up here in AK. However I am still thinking of the future resale value if I can't get this pack to fit my goofy back.

If I slash off all the bells and whistles will the pack still retain its value?

I have never used my lid as a waist pack.

I have used my pack without a lid.

Yes chopping it down with cut down on the value of the pack a bit in my opinion.

I'd say it would cut 50% off the value of the lid. Lid goes from dual purpose to lid only. I've got a long hunter lid on mine and cut the waistbelt off but i'm leaving the 3 bars on it. Cut the snow collar off my main bag as well.

I'm never going to sell the pack though.

I just hacked up my longhunter lid and BT1 last night so I feel your concern. I've had two other longhunter lids on packs and have never used them as a lumbar pack. Save the weight!

I can't get the nerve to cut my bag up but I know it would help on weight. What did you cut off? I'm thinking of cutting off the snow collar and sleeping bag divider.

Took off the waist belt and corresponding strap connectors on each side of the zipper on the lid, snow collar, and will probably cut down some of the straps once I do a couple of trips and figure what I need.

I also clipped off the strap connector at the top of each side pocket and replaced with a buckle for easy access.

I took out my sleeping bag divider on my Timberline but may leave it for meat shelf hauling. Haven't decided on that one yet.

I held scissors to mine many times before I did it. I feel your concern. In the end you will be happy cutting up the lid. I am!
